Getting it down to 9 was pretty much impossible.

Civilization II, Might and Magic, and Dark Age of Camelot point to a love of worlds you can inhabit for a long time; Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins add consequential choices and companions. Then GTA III, BioShock, and The Last of Us each show a different way a game can make its world feel vivid and unsettling. Counter-Strike is the outlier in the best way: pure skill, teamwork, and stories that happen between players.

Zac Creggers’ RESIDENT EVIL reboot was a lot of cheeky good fun but the last third got just a bit too goofy for my taste. The first 2/3rds, though, was a very excellent balance of meta-humor and expert horror pacing/tropes. Overall, a smart and clever reboot of a tired cinematic franchise.
