Working retail, I remember an occasion where a couple knew we weren't allowed to make them leave and kept browsing out of spite. We closed 20 minutes late that day. Felt like two hours. Hell has a special place for the corporate apparatchiks whose rules enable this sort of behaviour.

Years ago I planned an outing to the Marble Arch Caves in Fermanagh, a good 2h drive away. Knowing them to be closed after rainfall, I'd call ahead to check. After postponing the 3rd week in a row, I really questioned the wisdom of having a tourist site that has to close if it rains. In Ireland.

So sorry for your loss. One doesn't realise the size of the space they take up in one's life until they are no longer at your side. Rumble, my faithful companion of 13 years, succumbed to an aggressive cancer last month. I miss him more than I can ever explain.
