Just a beautiful little story. Since her passing, I've learnt a lot more about her amazing charity - it really is inspiring.

AI company Anthropic secretly bought millions of rare and out-of-print books to train its Claude AI model. They used a hydraulic-powered cutting machine to remove the pages for scanning before destruction.

There will be advertisements when players are injured. Health/ wellness ads would be *perfect* when a player is injured. Maybe it already happens. It *is* possible to monetise everything, regardless of the outcomes.

A new Arch in Washington should be a Free Speech Arch. It should be the one place in that area of Washington that not only allows but encourages graffiti. A centre for opinion. Right Left Diagonal. If a regime proscribes against one ‘side’ it will be physically obvious. If it allows hate - also

Watching soccer organised into quarters is like watching rugby union where the team in possession is only allowed 5 phases going forward. It’s kinda the same sport but… not really

It's a bit of a shame that Labour's Keir Starmer lost his Premiership, in the same year his beloved Arsenal won its first Premiership in far too long. Somewhere in here is subtext. or something.

AI efficiency gains only come in specific types of work. Yet people are being forced to apply it to all work. It’s causing time dilation in many more cases than time contraction. And all the while we’re stopping entrants into work who can learn on the job from experience and experienced colleagues.

@molcher.bsky.social Hi there - perhaps I missed it, but have you and @2000ad.bsky.social been celebrating the OBE for John Wagner in the recent King's birthday honours? Mileage may vary on gongs in general, but surely it's a great recognition of all he's done? :¬)

Here's an idea for a podcast/ radio programme. 'Of It's Time' - a 45min discussion with doctorate-level experts exploring TV shows, personalities and cultural moments. eg an 'In Our Time' episode discussing 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum'. ;¬)

So - I have 2 brothers. We support Spurs, ManU and Arsenal [random reasons!] Let's just say they'd both want to be 2nd place runners up consecutive seasons right now. Hey ho

Using Ai for memes is boiling the ocean for no profit. It's not sustainable. AI will be only be for Healthcare and Military-adjacent tech in 5 years (due to $$). AI will also be limited by govt due to power/ environmental demands. We must ensure we don't lose skills we're currently losing to AI

Trump landed in a sand trap. Maybe he'll try a few wedges. But let's be clear. He'll (have others) pick up the ball and declare a birdie.

AI Used to focus on patterns to narrow options a human can review, then it's useful (eg mammograms and cancer). Used creating options for a human - it's not. Stretching a human's focus across multiple options, possible errors, needing to corroborate findings etc actually *wastes* time and effort.

#arsecastextra @arseblog.com @gunnerblog.bsky.social If Gyokeres is a "confidence player", do you think his 'slow' start to the season might not just be the new league and stronger teams, but also due to getting no confidence in training, as he's up against the best defenders in the PL? ;¬)

It's irrelevant how people define what it takes to be English or British. They probably also hate people who can identify as being like them using whatever rules they have. For them it's to hate the 'other' they believe they can have power over. Especially when they feel like they've lost power.

@astrokatie.com Hi I'm not expecting *you* to answer my dumb question :¬D But for your network Is it possible to use gravitational waves to work as a communication system (on Earth) as an alternative to satellites and cables. Thanks ("no, how dumb are you??" is perfectly fine tho a bit rude) :¬)

My brother fought in the infantry and lost soldiers in Afghanistan. The press used to report deaths before families had been told and I would check my phone over and over, scared it would ring. I went to the inquest of one of his killed men. I saw his red-eyed parents, girlfriend and baby daughter.

Here's a thought* Let's stop using AI for anything less than curing cancer etc. We are 'boiling the ocean' getting it to answer dumb questions and make memes we don't need. * just a thought from a human.

@arsecast.bsky.social @gunnerblog.bsky.social #arsecastextra Thoughts on Clarence Seedorf’s good post-match comments please. He gently admonished pundits for the 2nd-place-nearly narrative as the impetus to ‘finally’ win, being less important than believing in the future possibility of winning.

@alastaircampbell2.bsky.social Just heard the latest pod where you rightly extol the value of reading and put a call out to publishers. Alastair- support LIBRARIES! I grew up in a house with few books but the library became my haven! Support libraries because they’re the lynchpin of communities!

@restispoliticsus.bsky.social @kattybkay.bsky.social @scaramucci.bsky.social Would it help if Europe warns Trump that he'll bring nuclear war *closer* if he appeases Putin? If Europe faces up to Russia, its more likely they would turn to 'tactical' nuclear weapons than a long drawn out war.

@restispoliticsus.bsky.social @kattybkay.bsky.social @scaramucci.bsky.social If only the "land swap" Trump wants to propose, is Ukrainian occupied land for... Alaska! Does Trump want peace so much he's prepared to swap Alaska 'back' to Russia the US bought it from? I know, no but #peaceprize ! :D

@restispoliticsus.bsky.social Here's a controversial thought. After Trump, the next administration will have to pick up the mess of doge, inflation and nations reneging on the 'investments' made when Trump really only wanted announcements. The Democrats really don't want to win the next election

We've always measured the wrong data. It always felt kind of right at the time. We even acted on that data. Then later, we realised it was the wrong data. There. That's it.
