My kids and I rode our bikes around our local university last night. They saw these delivery bots and excitedly called them “food puppies”. After the “food puppy” showed that it didn’t want to be blocked by excited kids, my middle child called them “rudebots”.

It becomes part of the daily routine. Its the first thing we do. Everyone is asked to wave, fist bump, head nod, or side hug (if okay) with someone and if that is difficult, they can do a “princess wave” where they wave to the class.

What debt do we owe each other? Perhaps we do have a debt to repay. But maybe, rather than some obligation, we can simply participate in a gift economy, in reciprocity (as Robin Wall Kimmerer suggests so beautifully in “The Serviceberry”). To give and share freely without shame; free to grow.

Nothing suppresses growth more than debt. Financial debt keeps us from making (much needed) changes; from getting help (medically or otherwise); from even helping others and participating in the community - debt is shame attached to a promise.
