Goodnight from the Red House Transport Cafe, where Sadie Stowen is finding out the going rate for her soul. Goodnight from the boot boys under Brighthaven Pier, suddenly realising that they aren’t tooled up enough for a ruck with what’s emerging from the sea. Goodnight from Hookland.

Different gatherings. ✨
Amongst shaggy green moss there is a group of five mushrooms. To the right three mushrooms stand graduates in size, the smallest at the front.

She sits on the rocks and hums a small song that the wind refuses to carry. She has yet to experience storms. She is the last siren in a world already too full of noise. Sand falls through her fingers as she watches the boats pass by. #vssdaily experience #vss365 siren

Picnic for garbage babies. 💕 Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Black and white photo of a tabby cat and what are presumably her three tabby kittens. They are all on top of a galvanized metal trash can outdoors which has been covered with a white cloth. There is a bowl of something in the middle and they are all eating from it.

Because I know how much you guys love carpeted toilet accessories. Photo from my collection, 1972.
Color photo of a medium haired dilute tortie cat that seems to have Persian blood because it’s face is quite flat. It is looking up at the camera with its permanently, surprised expression. It’s sitting on top of the pink carpeted lid of a cream colored toilet. The tank of the toilet has a matching pink carpeted cover.

#theBeeAt3 Basic bee facts every day at 3pm. 56. Bumblebees need to keep their eggs/larvae at an optimum temperature of between 86-90°F (30-32°C). In very hot weather the female workers and queen will position themselves at the nest entrance and ‘fan’ the nest with their wings. #bees #nature

October is change. October is spirits. We walk the edge of its fields, knowing they wait for the first frost of the year to crack them and release their ghosts. - Katherine Gidding, Hookland artist, talking about her 1939 painting 'The Lip'

Owl of the Day: Speckled Boobook 📷 Christoph Moning
Owl perched on a branch, photo. Description from ebird: ‘A distinctive medium-sized owl with a rounded head, prominent white eyebrows, dark eyes, a white belly, and a widely spotted gray upperside and crown. Found in forest and edge in the lowlands and foothills, often in pairs. Confined to Sulawesi and satellite islands. Voice atypical of boobooks: gives a high-pitched, incessant series of single notes, “ru-ru-ru,” like the sound of a small dog barking. Frequently builds in volume and pace, ending in a short explosive sequence of agitated shrill squeals.’

Autumn comes to the cottages with carpets of apple rot that sour the air with vinegar tang. Comes in a dressing of the year not in green gowns, but wounded rags of brown. It comes as a fear of early darkness. A terror of hungry spirits that rush the path. – #DAKilory, 1982

As autumn unfolds, who’s on fungi watch?🍄 Look out for the tell-tale staining of Green Elfcup, the iconic Fly Agaric, and other clusters of fungi making their appearance across our woodlands. What’s sprouting in your area...
A vibrant red Fly Agaric mushroom lies among the earthy forest floor, its cap dotted with white specks that resemble tiny cotton tufts. Surrounded by fallen leaves and twigs, the mushroom’s thick white stem stretches out, showing off its iconic and almost whimsical appearance. Nearby, a smaller mushroom begins to emerge, hinting at the mushroom’s life cycle in the rich undergrowth.A dense cluster of small, golden-brown mushrooms clings to the side of a decaying log in the forest. The wood is aged and mottled with patches of moss and green lichen, providing a textured backdrop for the fungi. Two slender, delicate mushrooms with softly rounded caps stand side by side, seemingly leaning towards each other in a display of companionship. The mushrooms, with their soft brown and grey tones, stand out against a blurred green background.A single trumpet-shaped fungus rises from a lush carpet of moss, its cup-like top covered in a soft, velvety texture. It is surrounded by vibrant green moss tendrils, creating a miniature landscape that feels almost otherworldly. The close-up view invites a closer inspection of this tiny marvel of the forest floor.
