Not actually Riggs. Sorry. I'm not even really a possum, I'm such a fraud. She/her I guess but I'd prefer if you just envisage me as a vague non-corporeal form, or maybe a brain in a fancy jar. With arms for typing & drawing, I suppose.

Many (most?) immunocompromised people are *not* eligible for free Covid vaccination in the UK, so if this actually works, it will be useful for a lot of people who won't even need to lie. It's ridiculous how much the free ones have been restricted.

This is a big part of why I tend to dislike games with a medieval Europe inspired fantasy setting, though you would expect I'd be interested. So much brown.

When it comes to enterprise software and IT, it bothers me how often this is ignored. There's this saying in business about not outsourcing your core competency, and IT & software often are seen as falling outside of that, when they shouldn't.

Everyone should experience Judero. Many of my forebearers are from the Scottish borders and it's so damned cool seeing a game inspired by the area and its folklore. The soundtrack is top tier, also.

Went to Byland Abbey to look at the tiles, and saw this semi-circle in the ground with thicker grass and mushrooms growing from it. I wonder what used to be there.

Presuming the tool must be thinking & reasoning is essentially the same error as believing in "intelligent design" rather than accept evolution and natural forces. On a large enough scale, results that look intentional can be brute forced with zero thinking involved.

I once had to maintain a very buggy system with code that was difficult to unpick. I eventually realised one section of it was copied directly from a Google Groups thread, where the author had cautioned it was a pseudo code example, and wouldn't work as-is. Unfortunately it was valid VB6.

I worked at a place where change requests were repeatedly rejected because the change request process had changed since you raised your request. No one on my team had ever gotten anything released to production. I did not last long but there were people in my department who'd been there years.

Sorting out my craft storage and I keep finding half finished things and prototypes from years ago.

A Google search for Wetherby Scottish raid, with the following AI overview in response:

Wetherby experienced two major types of Scottish raids: historic military attacks in the 14th century and modern criminal incidents, such as ram raids on local cash machines.

People have (rightly) pointed out the stupid contradictions in this statement regarding Stella, but also worth noting: in an earlier statement he claimed no one was losing their job to an LLM. In this one, he says using it made the game cheaper. So which is it, Matt? Christ he's bad at this.

I think subcontracting and outsourcing as a way to avoid accountability is one of the biggest problems we have - certainly in the US & UK, and I'm guessing elsewhere as well. It's heartening to see any case of it being tackled.

As someone who has moved country multiple times, it is now incredibly easy and cheap to keep in touch with friends & family who live a long way away! Long distance phone calls were unreliable & very expensive. VOIP, smart phones, group chats, video calls - amazing stuff.

This is very much what I've found. Aside from crossover, I have learnt *how* to learn. I also have a lot more faith in my ability to learn things, which makes me much less prone to getting stressed and convincing myself I'm stuck or not making progress.

I was once trapped at a bank of desks while several coworkers (including my straight boss and the only openly gay man in our department) had a gleeful, lengthy conversation about how bi people were greedy sluts, and also just lying to themselves about their sexuality.

I have too many ideas and keep splitting my time between them and then somehow I end up drawing trees instead of progressing the other things. I don't have any solid reason to be drawing trees.

This is a major reason I don't often love games set in medieval or fantasy medieval-ish settings. They're so brown! It's upsetting. I love actual medieval art & history and it's so much more interesting. (Also why Scriptorium & Pentiment are great.)

It's not enough to be against AI, you need to be pro art. You need to be a champion of the art you love, you need to share that passion and joy, and do what you can to support the artists who make it, because it's not enough to hate AI, to hate what it's doing to art and media; you gotta love.

In the week and a half I've not been doing my day job I have made & released my first Caves of Qud mod, started to learn watercolour, ordered most of the critical kit for what I'm going to be doing instead of my old job, and helped identify the cause of a bug in an early access game.

One thing I'm excited for in my new life is getting to live on my own schedule. I walked into my office as the sun was setting and left as it was rising. That wasn't as many hours as it sounds, fuck this latitude in the summer. (It was still pretty nice though.)

The Churchyard's Watchful Protector
In a snow-covered churchyard in front of a large gothic church, a large black dog with glowing eyes sits among the graves. The graves are weathered and covered in lichens, and capped with snow. Behind them stands a grand gothic stone church with many large indicate windows separated by buttresses (each topped by a pinnacle), with a tall central bell tower. Around it to the right are tall but bare trees. All are set against a smooth blanket-like cloudscape.

Some of the fields in Wharram Percy (a deserted medieval village) retained the names of the streets that occupied the same space hundreds of years before. Hundreds of years of people calling a pasture or field "Town Street."
