Edited a Hard Rock Casino spot with MCM Creative Studios. We used AI where it worked. When it looked wrong, we went back to Maya and After Effects. Stop prompting your way toward something that looks wrong. The old tools still work. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp77...

There is a person whose job includes shipping King Tut's treasures, pieces of the Titanic, and pandas. SHIPPING PANDAS! I learned about a job at FedEx called a loadmaster in the audiobook I'm editing right now. Getting paid to stumble onto facts like this is the best part of what I do.

Went into The Journalist and the Murderer knowing 0 about the actual murder, but the true-crime stuff didn't even matter. It’s a great look at journalistic ethics, free speech, and the morality of nonfiction storytelling. Full Goodreads review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Alright, finished it, and that ending is outstanding. The 16-year-old cousin plot is the only part hard to watch by today's standards, but overall it's a sharp satire on marital malaise and power dynamics. Full review on Letterboxd for the perverts over there: letterboxd.com/wesleyedits/...

That's a wrap on a busy week! Finished post on another Audiobook, wrapped a commercial campaign, recorded a podcast and did some marketing and writing. Somehow have some open time on the schedule for next week. Reach out if you need post-production, mixing, or editing support.

Love is Blind UK is edited so much better than Love is Blind in the US. The pacing and storytelling are spot on. Credit to the producers too, because the difference is noticeable.

What do you think? Is the best move sometimes to not win an argument - to let someone get it out of their system until they're ready to hear you?

I come from the school of thought of being a good listener and from a place of understanding. But I do think this is a great layer to add to my arsenal when a tough client comes around.

"Never be rattled. Like, ever. When the author wants to be wrong, I won't stop them. It's their book." The short of it: don't let them smell weakness! You know what? At the end of the day they wound up listening more after that tense moment.

Wrapping up one of the hardest audiobooks I've ever edited. Author decided to rework almost every sentence as we went, ad libbing on the fly. Asked the director how he deals with a difficult author. His answer:

All three of these are saying the same thing: stop treating addicts and the homeless as "other." Deal with root causes instead of managing symptoms from a distance, without compassion.

The other is two addiction psychiatrists debating what "recovery" even means, and who gets to define it. Harm reduction vs. abstinence, coercion vs. self-agency. It's usually a conversation behind closed doors. It shouldn't be. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoKJ...

One is with a street psychiatrist in Chicago who takes his care onto the sidewalk, into encampments and train stations. His point: homelessness is fundamentally a housing problem, not a moral one. Most people there aren't there by choice. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqwa...

Fascism didn't win because it was strong. It won because the opposition wasn't unified and those with power welcomed them suppressing the working class. My review of John Foot's Blood and Power 👇

OMG my mind is blown right now. Working on a cooking show right now with some Michelin star chefs from Barcelona and I learned that tomatoes weren't introduced to Europe until colonization of the Americas. Didn't touch Italian cooking until the late 18th century.

Knew nothing going in, came out with a decent grasp of the timeline and the real question underneath it all. Was unification a good thing, or a failed experiment Italy's still dealing with today? Questions still asked today.

Here are the details of the story: In 1914 a doctor figured out that pellagra killing tens of thousands of Southerners wasn't a germ. It was system that failed the poor. The medical establishment spent twenty years and 100,000 lives refusing to admit it.

This REI/Meta AD story is a pretty simple reminder: don’t blindly trust AI. Have a human check the work. Also, these tools should not be forced on companies or users. They should be opt-in. Meta has spent too much money on AI that they won’t even fake a policy rethink for the public.
