I'm about a quarter of the way into the extraordinary decision in APHA v. Vandals. It designed to serve as documentation of a great and grave injustice, the abandonment and intentional destruction of the NIH, one of the greatest achievements of the US and, indeed, of humanity. Essential reading.

Making America Healthy Again by defunding research on cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s is an…interesting, and reckless, strategy www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Table shows number of deaths from heart disease, respiratory distress, diabetes, cancer, stroke, Alzheimer’s drug overdose, suicide, Covid/flu. For each condition, they list the institute they funds that research and the amount of proposed funding cuts. These range from 36% to 40%

Peter Hotez is very worried that yellow fever is coming to the US. "We could manufacture next-generation mRNA vaccines [for yellow fever] quickly, as we did for Covid," he says. But of course the new Health & Human Services under Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is trying to block mRNA vaccine innovation.

Is it too much to ask for Jake Tapper to simply point out that Markwayne Mullin is not part of the Gang of Eight, for that matter does not even sit on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and therefore cannot have access to secret intelligence unless someone leaked it to him in violation of the law?

How the rest of the interview should have gone: WELKER: Can you name one instance where a Repub tax cut bill didn’t add to the deficit in the past? JOHNSON: <lies, because they always do> W: Actually in that case it added a huge amount to the deficit, here’s the proof. J: 🤡

Forty years later, and we STILL have to listen to this Laffer-curve voodoo economics drivel from Republicans. And the media just accepts it. Come on Margaret, just point out that with half a century of evidence tax cuts have never paid for themselves and don’t spur magical growth. It’s exhausting.

Um, what? Last I checked, the administration is still successfully hoovering up everyone's data at Social Security and the IRS, and still trying to shoehorn generative AI into everything in the federal government. How is this not aligned with Big Tech's objectives again?

When artwork is invented by a machine, it loses its most important power: to help people connect. In an already lonely era, that is particularly dangerous

A baby's life was saved thanks to a custom gene-editing treatment that was made just for him and designed to fix his precise mutation. The therapy was built on decades of federally funded research, and could one day treat millions. But advances like this are at risk due to science funding cuts.
Gene editing helped a desperately ill baby thrive. Scientists say it could someday treat millions

Empathy need not mean “unquestioning acceptance,” and can keep a bridge back open to people lost to conspiracies without enabling. It can work sometimes. Ostracism however pushes them to seek alternative connections in the conspiracy world. Jesselyn Cook’s “The Quiet Damage” was eye opening for me.

There's so much wrong with this list, but OH MY GOD, take a look at number 6... What an asinine idea. As soon as you get a chronic illness (and need healthcare the most), goodbye insurance. Basically defeats the entire purpose of insurance. This whole thing reads like it was written by a child.
