Watched the first match last night. The only scoreboard at BC Place is the Jumbotron, which results in the amusing sight of players having to cast their eyes up to the heavens.

If Cricket Australia found themselves in the exact same situation (paycuts, cancelling comps, shortening contracts), would it also be completely ignored by the BBC, Sky Sports, the Cricketer, the Guardian, the Times and the Telegraph?

And the rising oil/fuel prices this year is possibly what broke the camel's back. As much as I appreciate the effort made by you and CCP, the thought behind my initial post, was aimed at the wider media coverage.

I thought in the days after the announcement, we might get an analysis or two of what’s actually going on at Cricket West Indies. Instead, I’m seeing several different angles on the same Kevin Pietersen interview.

Proteas training camp that will run from 27 to 30 September in Pretoria. Kapp and Tryon not included as they'll be at the Canada Super60. It goes beyond my mind how Julia Hoal, the top run-scorer in the previous Pro50, does not make the 28 player squad.

Reckon there's enough room in the schedule to make this a yearly series, with hosting being rotated each year

Biggest transfers: Julia Hoal, top run-scorer in the 25/26 Pro50. Nthabiseng Nini, second highest wicket-taker in the 25/26 Pro50. Both are moving to regions that will assist their primary skill more.

Wolvaardt has finally broken the record Shandre Fritz held since 2010. Meso is the first wicketkeeper not named Lizelle or Trisha to score a 50 for the Proteas Women in a T20i. Dercksen is the first bowler not named Suné or Shabnim to take 5 wickets for the Proteas Women in a T20i.

Scotland players should not qualify as domestic players in the county system. Floated the idea of teams being limited to 2 Scottish players. Contradicted herself by being fine with Sterre Kalis, as she has residency, but what citizenship does she think Scottish players have?

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Couldn't comment about it at the time (hands were full of putty), but Jane Powell's view on Scottish players earlier in the Yorkshire stream, was rather disappointing. Also fits the Insular England narrative almost perfectly.

Cricket will always be my go-to sport, but trying to entice the American public with a sport that's objectively slower than their current bat-and-ball pastime, is a very big ask.

000

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Ponting saying there's saying there's a lot more happening in cricket, can also be a bad thing. A run in a T20 means adding less than 1% to the team's eventual score. A run in baseball/softball can range from 10% to 100% of the team's total.

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

The winner of the match is clear, even with a decent amount of play to go. T20: the required run-rate can be 70, doesn't matter, keep on playing. AUSL: run-rule. If a team is ahead by 8 runs at the end of the 5th innings, they win the match.

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Time taken between deliveries. T20: between retrieving the ball, setting the field and bowler's run-up, 30 to 60 seconds. AUSL: 20 second pitch clock, go over it, get penalised.

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

A tactical change needs to happen for the next delivery, what happens? T20: captain and bowler have a chat, followed by shouting and arm-waving to get fielders in place. AUSL: catcher and pitcher communicate via Pitchcom, with some fielders also wired in.

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Your favorite batter is out first delivery they face in the match, when can you watch them bat again? T20: 3-4 days, depending on the league schedule. AUSL: as soon as the rest of the team have batted. Should be around 30 minutes.

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

The team your supporting is fielding first in the match, how long until you can watch them bat? T20: 90 minutes to two hours AUSL: about 10 minutes

100

Werner Boucher @wernerboucher.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

The notion that baseball fans can just be converted to cricket is strange in my view. I watched a fair amount of AUSL (MLB-backed softball league) this year, so will be using that as comparison.

Dank fok. Western Province has readopted the Cobras name for its senior teams. Took them far too long, but I can now refer to the Cape Town-based team in 6 characters instead of 16.

Lunchtime at the Pietermaritzburg Oval, in the 3rd 50 over match. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the SA Emerging side has scored 228. Not a bad total considering they were 30-5 at one point. Faye Tunnicliffe turning the tide with her century, 116 off 95.
