🎅CHRISTMAS HAUL 2025 🎄 This year, I got a new job and a bonus so I splurged on myself for Christmas! I bought a bunch of CDs and since the Steam Winter Sale is happening I’ve bought a ton of games so here’s what I got myself for Xmas starting with my CD Haul 🧵

Got home from a nice weekend vacation earlier today and had two CDs waiting for me so I grabbed a Sapporo beer on the way back so I can end my night with a drink and music.

Thinking about how quite literally my friends and I watched Spinal Tap for the first time a day before Rob Reiner’s death. Man RIP.

The radio station at work just played Golden from KPop Demon Hunters (which I’ve honestly been waiting for for awhile since it got so popular) and a flurry of emotions just hit me at once. Partly because the vocals are so beautiful and it always gives me goosebumps

Watched Ep 7 of Peacemaker Season 2 and holy fuck. Vigilante has been my favorite character throughout the show but this episode just solidifies it. He’s so goddamn funny that I honestly forget how competent of a fighter he is because when he pops off HE POPS OFF. This season has been incredible 🔥

Went to a local card store yesterday and ended up finding a shiny Mabosstiff! They’re complete now and it honestly makes me so happy to have finally gotten this but to also have found it at a store! But now I think…I have to…collect more shinies?!?

Absolutely loved it and it’s definitely one of the best horror films this year. Great performances with a perfect blend of horror and humor and an ending that was PERPEKTO. It had a sequence I’d been patiently waiting for and they delivered holy shit. Cregger is 2 for 2.

Got two early birthday gifts last Friday! B&N is not only having a Criterion sale but they’re having a “Cult Classics” sale which includes Radiance and Indicator films. Picked up Dogra Magra because it sounded interesting and it’s from Toshio Matsumoto who also directed Funeral Parade of Roses

Went to 2NC and picked up a sick little haul. This Hedwig Criterion was only $12??? Sealed and never opened which is crazy but I’ll take it. Embroideries and Sense & Sensibility were both $2 and two works I’ve been tempted to buy for about a month and I was lucky enough to find them used.

Got two new books yesterday: my June 2025 Book Club pick and the International Booker Prize 2025 winner! I already started both and plan to finish them before the week is over! The World We Saw Burning will be my third Charco Press book and I’m so excited! The premise sounded fascinating!

Finished All-Star Superman a day ago and currently working on a review for it. Outstanding. Pretty sick that I’ve read two series this year about overpowered superheroes trying to do a lot of good.

I’m a little over halfway now and I don’t know why it didn’t click with me until the 6th issue but this really is the 12 Labors of Hercules huh? Every issue is a different feat showcasing his strength and heroism and elevating Superman into a mythological figure.

Listening to TFS’s Braindrops and I might like it more than their debut??? When listening to the two opening tracks, Gareth’s voice sounded more worn out but then get better over the course of the album. I love the guitars and harmonies as usual and I think my favorite track is “Who’s My Eugene?”!

Wenzel’s Essentials @wenzelsessentials.bsky.social · 20/06/2025

So excited for their release tonight. If you haven’t listened to Tropical Fuck Storm, I highly recommend them. They’ve released 4 singles and they’re 4 for 4. They’re all outstanding. Singles: “Goon Show” “Bloodsport” “Teeth Marché” “Dunning Kruger’s Loser Cruiser”

Criterion Collection announcing their additions for September got me so hyped. Finally getting Flow and two recent Wes Andersons which hopefully means we’ll get Asteroid City in the future. But I’m glad Isle of Dogs is getting added. Will pick all of these up.

Oh yeah I was in Chattanooga this past weekend so I had to stop by McKay’s and this was my book haul. They had A LOT of books I wanted so it was very hard to condense it down to 4 but these were the ones I wanted the most.

Finally started All-Star Superman and WOW I am so hooked because WHAT’S HAPPENING TO SUPERMAN??? Love the art too I always thought it looked weird but I’m at Episode 3 and I love it. Also love all of these crazy and zany scifi stuff being thrown at us.

Currently reading Pride & Prejudice and my thoughts so far: THIS WHITE GIRL IS FUNNY! But no seriously it’s pretty funny and it’s in modern English but I’m reading it pretty smoothly. I was afraid since it’s been so long since I’ve read something from the 1800s that I would have a tougher time.
