Sorry. My @smh cartoon.
“May 26 was National Sorry Day.” 8 frames, illustrating: “Sorry…we keep arresting and incarcerating you (kid getting arrested by 2cops); you keep inexplicably dying in our custody (cop outside cell, small black hand visible through door window); we destroyed your heritage again (energy corp guy blowing up red rocks) ; we’ve ignored so many recommendations (Bringing them Home report, 1997); we voted NO (referendum ballot paper) we didn’t just legislate a Voice to Parliament (Indigenous people locked out of parliament); a failed bomb attack against you is barely newsworthy (people fleeing a parcel going tick tick tick); the gap keeps widening (a tent at dusk, beside it silhouette of a person comforting another).
Then the line “Sorry that saying sorry is the least we can do.”

1/2 The wonderful Loud Jew Collective has been designated not Jewish enough to speak at the Royal Commission, so it’s on us to spread their media release. The RC is promoting the establishment messaging and silencing dissent. Please share this. #Auspol
Media Release
Loud Jew Collective condemns the anti-Palestinian racism on show at the Royal CommissionOn 1st May Loud Jew Collective (LJC) was told by the Royal Commission that "the Commissioner is not satisfied that LJC has a direct and substantial interest in the scope of the hearing and has refused LJC leave to appear at Hearing Block 1."
This rejection is evidence of the irredeemably flawed state of the Royal Commission. A flaw confirmed by the relentless anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia that we have heard since the Royal Commission commenced this Hearing Block.
Hearing Block 1 has been purportedly examining "the nature and prevalence of antisemitism in Australia" and hearing from "witnesses about their lived experience of antisemitism."LJC's submission focuses on the most prevalent forms of antisemitism that Collective members have experienced - that perpetrated by the far-right and by zionist Jews.
It incorporates a witness statement by Collective member Anny Mokotow and attached expert evidence by historian
Dr Jordana Silverstein.
Anny Mokotow's statement explained that "As LJC, we have always resisted our identity being subsumed by the idolatry of Israel. The myth of the 'Jew' as 'special' has become a political reality even if it is based on the notion of victimhood. We, as anti-Zionists, who refuse to use victimhood as a right to superiority are now othered by our own 'people'."LJC's submission outlines many Collective members' lived experiences of antisemitism and situates this antisemitism within its appropriate contexts, demonstrating that in Australia it must be seen as a marginal form of racism.
Proper focus must instead be placed on the founding racism - that faced by First Nations people - as well as on the racism faced by Palestinians, Muslims, Arabs, and other significantly marginalised groups.
The Royal Commission's assertion that LJC's testimony is not relevant to their work in this Hearing Block is thus evidence of the anti-Palestinian racism at the core of both the Commission and Australian politics and media more generally.

A war by any other name. My cartoon in today's @theageaustralia.bsky.social
A political cartoon by Megan Herbert in which a journalist asks Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, " Have you just committed us to a war?" And the PM responds, " No, I've committed us to a (preemptive retaliatory de-escalation action to protect and defend Australians and other citizens in response to a request by our new strategic partner by sending defensive missiles & surveillance equipment to protect the airspace and assist the region with its collective self-defence against reprisal attacks that come as a result of the ongoing operation launched as an anticipatory response to perceived threats by historical allies acting against the established international rule of law who are too powerful for us to in any meaningful way challenge.) There's a very big difference." The words in brackets are arranged in such a way that they completely fill the word WAR written in a huge, hulking, bold khaki font.
