When it was our turn I goofed the spiral, so I got a leash bite, then I turned the wrong way on a back up and pivot and got another. Tallie is a harsh Rally judge when we run. 😂
A small, fluffy bi-black Sheltie lies patiently on the dark rubber floor of an indoor dog training facility, waiting for her turn at Rally Obedience. Her thick black fur frames an enormous white chest ruff, with white front paws stretched neatly in front of her and a narrow white stripe running down her forehead and muzzle. A pale mint-green leash trails loosely beside her, while a black metal exercise pen separates her from the Rally course, where an orange station marker numbered 5 is visible. With both pointed ears perked upright and her dark eyes looking directly toward the camera, she has an attentive, slightly serious expression, as though she’s checking whether it’s finally her turn to show everyone how it’s done.

Rally class! She was very attentive to her friend’s run before hers.
A small, fluffy bi-black Sheltie lies on the dark rubber floor of an indoor dog training facility, patiently waiting for her turn at a Rally Obedience course. Her thick black coat, enormous white chest ruff, and fluffy white front paws stand out against the dark flooring, while a pale mint-green leash trails loosely beside her. With her front paws stretched forward, ears perked, and head turned sharply to the right, she watches intently through a black metal exercise pen toward the course where her friend is competing. An orange Rally course marker with the number 5 is visible beyond the fencing. Her alert expression and slightly sideways glance make her look as though she’s carefully studying her friend’s performance before taking her own turn.

Tallie Pupdate, we are at the vet & she thinks she can be invisible under here
A small, fluffy bi-black Sheltie lies tucked beneath a long wooden bench in a veterinarian’s office, apparently hoping to stay out of sight. Her black fur contrasts with her thick white chest ruff, white front paws, and the narrow white stripe running down her face. A pale turquoise leash stretches across her front legs and trails over the shiny, speckled gray floor. With her ears slightly back and her head lowered, she gazes warily off to one side, looking as though she would very much prefer to remain hidden under the bench rather than face whatever the vet has planned.

5 years ago today. so smol. 🥹
A tiny black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog puppy rests against someone’s forearm, looking softly toward the camera with wide, sleepy eyes. The puppy has a narrow white blaze down its dark face and a fluffy white chest, with one small paw draped over the person’s wrist beside a pink watch band. The close framing and dim, warm indoor light make the scene feel quiet and cuddly, as if the very young puppy has settled in for a nap.A tiny black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog puppy lies curled on a textured sofa cushion, nestled beside a soft pink corduroy stuffed animal with long white-lined ears. The puppy rests its chin against the toy and looks toward the camera with one dark, sleepy eye visible, while its small white paws tuck close to its body. The close-up indoor scene feels especially cozy and gentle, with the puppy appearing drowsy and comforted by its plush companion.

Not an option for everyone, but this is why I try to do CSAs as much as possible. Our CSA sent us apples that are PINK inside recently! I've never seen anything like that, and they were amazing. But tiny, and didn't store well- you had to eat them quickly. 🍎

💗 Tallie sends some celebratory tail wags!
A black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog walks toward the camera along a quiet neighborhood sidewalk on a sunny autumn day. The dog wears a pink harness attached to a pale mint-green leash and looks cheerful and alert, with its mouth open and tongue slightly out. Fallen red, orange, and yellow leaves are scattered across the pavement, while leafy trees and shrubs line the path. Warm sunlight filters through the branches, creating a bright golden glow in the background and highlighting the Sheltie’s fluffy white chest ruff.

book mail arrived today!
A hardcover book titled *Charlemagne’s Dream: The Rise and Fall of the Carolingian Empire* by James T. Palmer rests diagonally on top of a closed laptop on a wooden table. The book cover features a medieval-style illustration of armored soldiers and mounted warriors in battle, framed by ornate floral borders in muted red, blue, green, and gold. The pale laptop beneath it is decorated with several stickers, including a small cartoon figure and a floral design, with part of a patterned rug visible in the background.

Building isn't super hard now with Claude. Patching, maintaining, keeping it up & not constantly crashing is a skillset that Claude totally helps with but it's an ongoing burden. Makes sense for large-ish companies to take this on, diminishing returns as you get down to individuals....

In 2014, HLS found 50%+ of cited links in Supreme Court opinions no longer point to the intended webpage. ~70% of cited links in academic legal journals & 20% of all science, tech, & medicine articles suffer from linkrot. perma.cc I’m sure it’s gotten worse. I bet @timbl.bsky.social is frustrated.
perma.cc - Private
Link rot destroys the integrity of your citations
OU
Links start healthy. New citations have been vetted and verified.
After one year. After a year, over 20% of cited links may be dead or otherwise inaccessible.
After five years. After five years, the situation is much worse - over 50% of cited links can be affected.
As time goes on. Link rot is
inevitable and rarely reversible. The longer the wait, the more likely a link will have rotted.

Shelties: majestic, regal looking working dogs Tallie: “I like to be carried by dog dad in my tote bag” 😂
A black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog sits snugly inside a gray soft-sided travel crate or carrier, looking directly up at the camera with wide, attentive brown eyes. The dog’s narrow white blaze runs from the forehead down the muzzle, and its long dark fur spills over the edge of the carrier. The softly lit indoor setting includes a blue-and-white patterned rug and nearby furniture, while the Sheltie’s calm, slightly expectant expression makes it look as though it is waiting patiently to go somewhere.

Have teensy tiny kitchen, but 2 blocks from Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods, 3 blocks from year round farmer market: yeah, many afternoons after work I walk to the store to decide what to get to make for dinner. Takes barely 20 minutes, nice cap to the work day. I bring a backpack, it fits plenty.

happy gotcha day Tallie!
A tiny black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog puppy is cradled snugly in my arms inside a car. The puppy looks directly toward the camera with wide, dark eyes, a soft white blaze down its forehead and muzzle, and one small white paw resting over the person’s sleeve with dark paw pads visible. Its fluffy fur and very small size make it look especially young, while the person’s mauve-gray hoodie and the edge of the car seat frame the cozy close-up.

A smiling woman holds a tiny black-and-white Sheltie puppy bundled snugly in a bright blue fleece blanket. The fluffy puppy, with a white chest, muzzle, and front paws, looks up intently toward her face while one little paw rests over the blanket. They are outdoors on a cool-looking day, with a gravel path, grass, and large evergreen trees softly blurred in the background.

The human's job is not just to read the dog's alert but also to think about things like wind direction & so making sure the dog fully covers the search area. I'm lucky, Tallie is extremely methodical and understands coverage & so does that second part largely herself most of the time.

How far away can a dog detect a scent from? It's pretty far, but depends on the air temperature, wind direction, scent's height from the ground/dog's height, & many other factors. But odor plumes do very much travel & depending on the dog's relative position they can race right down it to source.

West Seattle near the Junction is lovely, we have great little restaurants and shops, lots of apartment buildings there close to buses & shuttle to water taxi. Not good if you like night life, great if you like parks & easy airport access.

Ah! welcome! Welp, you are well on your way to learning the weirdness of our transit system. Have you tried out a ferry ride yet? Not that paying for them is too wonky- they have fare gates- but the rides are gorgeous. ⛴️ This was the water taxi sunrise yesterday:
A waterfront sunrise scene with a white King County Water Taxi docked in the foreground, its bow and cabin partly silhouetted. Across the water, the sun sits low near the horizon beneath layered dark gray clouds, casting a bright golden-orange reflection across the rippling surface. The distant shoreline and industrial buildings appear as dark shapes against the glowing sky, creating a dramatic contrast between the stormy clouds above and the warm sunrise below.

Link is so confusing for payment- there are poles with card readers you tap before you get on, then you tap again when you get off. Really, they need to get around to getting fare gates on the station because it's not obvious. www.soundtransit.org/ride-with-us...

A black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog lies flat on a plush pink shaggy bed, resting its chin low against the soft fabric. Tallie says the best way to start the weekend is to wake up at 4 AM when your pilot dogdad does. She still doesn't know why he gets to go fly the 737 and she's stuck at home, though. Doesn't he know shelties would make excellent pilots if you'd just let them into the cockpit? 🛫
A black-and-white Shetland Sheepdog walks toward the camera along a wide concrete alley, one fluffy white front paw lifted mid-step. The dog is attached to a bright pink leash and looks ahead with alert ears and an open-mouthed, cheerful expression. Chain-link fencing lines one side of the alley while ivy and a low retaining wall run along the other, with the long paved lane stretching into the distance behind the dog.
