Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 04/01/2024Der Kleine Häwelmann (the little Havelman) is a German bedtime story written by Theodor Fontane in 1848. It’s about a boy who uses his night shirt as a sail and his crib as a cart to travel to strange places. That crying moon used to freak me out 😆 #childrensbooks #bizarre #illustration 020
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 31/12/2023It’s the last day of the year, and like today #2023 has been so light and so dark, so bright and so exhausting, so blessed… happy #2024 everyone 🥳🥳🥳 #newyear 020

Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 27/12/2023Breastfeeding supposedly saves you £15 a week because you don’t spend money on formula…. What’s not been considered there though is how much you spend on chocolate and cake instead 🍰 🧁 🍫 👶 140

Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 11/12/2023Definitely did that a lot when I had a main character who was a journalist… she kept going on about how she’d never write novels, because it’s easy when you make it up 😝 120
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 10/12/2023I’ve always liked the German equivalent: Nur die Harten komm’ in den Garten. Translates as: only those who tough it out end up in the garden (I.e. paradise) 020

Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 10/12/2023I just love it when you dig out a manuscript you haven’t touched in 5 years and two things are true: 1) it’s actually not bad 😃 2) it’s suddenly right on reading trend 🤩 watch this space, folks! #amwriting #crimefiction #writing #author 040

Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 07/12/2023I think that’s what makes you a true writer. When it’s a compulsion. It’s a career that chooses you, not the other way round. Mind you, I’m also the biggest procrastinator and sometimes have to force words out with promises of biscuits. I don’t know how that fits together 💁♀️ 120

Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 07/12/2023It’s what keeps me sane 😆😆😆 honestly, I’m doing nothing, just gathering ideas and plotting in my head… anything to get 5 min respite from baby care! PS: I do really love my baby. Just in case I sound too negative 😏 110
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 07/12/2023I’m more confused by the fact that he seems to be holding himself as a baby. Or was there another baby with a halo I’m not aware of? 010
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 07/12/2023And now try being an author with a 4 month old baby! Baby’s finally settled after the 3am feed, you’re drifting off to sleep and BAM!!! New idea!! Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 06/12/2023Welcome to the blue skies! I’m a newbie here myself 🙋♀️ 010
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 06/12/2023My third manuscript has received its first rejection… I am floored! After two novels out, I forgot that terrible feeling 😳 Then I remind myself that I had 64 rejections before I first got #published. You have to soldier on! My heart goes out to all the #authors out there querying. Keep at it! 120
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 04/12/2023There’ll be a big difference between best-selling, best reviewed and best loved… only the first two make the lists, I suppose. I think they’re mostly best-selling, a cheap marketing boost to books already doing well. 010
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 03/12/2023Yes, that would make sense. Scottish Gaelic has a lot of words that are similar to saxon as well, so it’s been shaped by different waves of immigration. I’m from north Germany, which was also at some point settled by Celtic people, yet ‘we’ don’t think of ourselves as celts. It’s all quite complex 😆 110
Inga Vesper @wekesperos.bsky.social · 03/12/2023Interesting. I’ve had some rather spirited (i.e. whisky-fuelled) debates in my Gaelic choir about whether the ancient speakers of Scots and Irish Gaelic and Welsh would have felt any kind of Celtic solidarity the way today’s speakers do, given they were different kingdoms. 110
