True virtue is difficult. It involves moral clarity over moral certainty. It involves accepting that all sides in a conflict do things which are not optimal. True virtue requires an idea of morality which is not couched in absolutes. Virtue signaling erases all that. "This is what's right and you are not only wrong but morally deficient." When you take that stance, it is you who is morally deficient.

Excerpt from "The Shot That Rewrites Flu Season: What mFlusiva's FDA Decision Means for mRNA Medicine," www.bioreview.com, 5 Aug 2026

The Political Subtext That Cannot Be Ignored

The mFlusiva decision arrives in a regulatory environment that has been reshaped by leadership changes at the FDA. Both Vinay Prasad, who initially refused to review the application, and former commissioner Marty Makary, who had enacted stricter standards for certain vaccine approvals, have departed the agency. Their replacements have signaled a return to more traditional regulatory postures, and the advisory committee's unanimous vote was widely interpreted as a reflection of that shift. Several drugs that had been rejected under the prior leadership have since received new consideration.

The broader political context involves a public health environment in which mRNA technology has become a flashpoint. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who served as HHS Secretary before departing the administration, was openly skeptical of mRNA vaccines and oversaw the cancellation of federal contracts for mRNA vaccine research. The fact that an mRNA flu vaccine is now at the threshold of approval, backed by a unanimous expert panel, is a data point that the field will cite for years in debates about the technology's legitimacy and safety profile.

What the catalog promised, vs what actually arrived
Color lithograph of a "sans-culotte" of the French Revolution in typical garb. His shirt is open to the waist. His loose trousers end above the ankle. He stands with one hand on his hip and the other holding a pikestaff. He has a very fierce scowl on his face.Andrew Tate with his hands cuffed behind his back. He wears ill-fitting garments that vaguely resemble the sans-culotte's. He has no pikestaff, which is just as well, since he would probably hurt himself if he tried to wield one.

Justifying attacks on random Jews in Canada by crimes committed by Netanyahu's regime in Israel is textbook antisemitism. If this is your thinking, know also that you are being egged on by bad-faith instigators.

anti-Zionist is not anti-Semitism. Being against the government of Israel and their rampant genocide is not anti-Semitism. You can be against a government and yet still love the people. Look at the US. Horrible fascist government, yet some of my best friends are there. Stop funding genocide!

My photos aren't of your caliber, but will these help? This goumi shrub has been in the ground for over 20 years. Until now, the birds pretty much ignored it. But now they seem to have discovered that hey, those red things are FOOD! Waxwings, ASSEMBLE!!
Cedar waxwings visiting a goumi berry shrub. There are at least four birds in this picture. Two are readily visible. The others are partly hidden by leaves.A cedar waxwing bends down to pluck a juicy red berry from among green leaves. The head and shoulders of a cedar waxwing are visible among the green leaves of a goumi shrub. The bird is buff colored and has the black "mask" typical of its kind. It grasps a red berry in its beak.

"Prosecutors in based out of Norfolk were not sure this was the strongest case in the world, but Halligan felt very strongly that it should be pressed," [MS NOW reporter Carol] Leonnig said. "Now, of course, this action by the FBI, as reported by Fox News, is embarrassing to Lucas, embarrassing to the Democratic Party and also to the governor of that state, because Lucas is a close ally of hers, and now what we know from this is the probe is really quite active. But as for charges, we shall see. They may be sealed at this moment, or they may never come. We're somewhere in the middle of those two."

Just as you claim the left being unenthused about Kamala was simply not pragmatic, it was even less pragmatic for her campaign to try and scold untold numbers of people on the left into going to the ballot box one by one than just having Kamala grit her teeth and appease some leftist influencers in exchange for favorable coverage. Those people, even if you hate them, now hold more cache among the demographics Dems need than any mainstream outlet. She needed their energy and cool factor to win, but wasn't willing to swallow her pride and pander to it.

Compare to what Trump was willing to do to form his 2024 coalition, including cozying up with RFK and Tulsi Gabbard and tech giants. It doesn't matter how strong your moral argument against leftists sitting out the election was, it doesn't matter how much you think they are "supposed to" look at the facts and conclude both sides aren't the same, if your existing method of communication isn't moving the needle–regardless of how sensible it feels to you consciously--you are failing at campaigning. By refusing to figuratively slob on the online left's knob because she didn't believe in paying such a price for voters that logically "should" support her anyway, she was doing the same thing the online left was doing, not relenting on principle. And that's fine if she were just some commentator or voter, but spelled her failure as a politician and leader.

It seems the problem is 1) Dems aren't a monolith, and therefore 2) (in poster's opinion) not responsive to being "disciplined" as a Party by means of withholding funds. I interpret this as saying "it's unacceptably hard to inflict the desired collective punishment." But I could be wrong
Screenshot of post by spicycurry.bsky.social:

American politics working on a candidate-by-candidate basis means that there really isn’t any chance of disciplining the party through cutting off donations. Taking Ken Martin’s money won’t stop Mamdani from getting any.

h/t nicokow.bsky.social This quotation is outstanding. Reposted with alt-text.
Commenter prokopetz:

Thesis: the narrow focus on public performance over substantive action in certain activist circles has less to do with cynical schemes to game the system for progressive brownie points, and more to do with the fact that many folks basically think social activism is a form of ritual magic. Popular histories give us images of Great Men making speeches and leading marches and circulating petitions, and completely erase all the ground-level infrastructure that made all that stuff work; the end result is that a lot of folks seem honestly to believe that bringing about social change is a matter of performing the appropriate symbolic actions and waiting for reality to reconfigure itself accordingly.

FECA [Federal Election Campaign Act] bars foreign nationals from "directly or indirectly" making contributions or donating another "thing of value" in any federal, state, or local election; and prohibits contributions to political parties or other political committees (52 U.S.C. §30121(a)(1)). Any "person" (e.g., a U.S. citizen) may not "solicit or accept" a contribution or donation from a foreign national (52 U.S.C. §30121(a)(2)). [Anti-semites] know that their statements are empty and contestable; but it amuses them to make such statements: it is their adversary whose duty it is to choose his words seriously because he believes in words. They have a right to play. They even like to play with speech because by putting forth ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutor.
