Brazil has a version of Facts in Five called Adedonha which we actually play all the time in my Portuguese lessons! with Brazilians learning English, so we have to come up with "sports" or "rivers" or whatever in both languages!

I do love the Dictionary Game but would argue that the GREATEST word game is Taboo, which I can play for free by trying to have conversations about my life my still-spotty Portguese or Spanish 😆

I live in Maine and you are 100% correct. It is not its highest purpose, and lobster is SO much work that it should only be eaten in its highest form! (which is a lobster roll covered in melted butter)

This was the EXACT experience I had with long covid & my ebike (also an Aventon) – I can go for a ride and not have to carefully watch the time/mileage and ration my energy for the return trip. 😍

that movie came out when my nephew was very small and his perfect summary (repeated often in my house to this day) was "that mouse, is in that hat"

Eileen Webb @webmeadow.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

Oh the remake is not very good but is also delightful and exactly the kind of thing I will rewatch when I'm feeling crummy and want a dumb popcorn movie. So that's... some sort of recommendation??? "A GREAT MOVIE TO FOLD LAUNDRY TO"

I saw The Lobster in the theater and wow I did not know that I could be that mad about a movie advertised to me as "quirky comedy"

I went directly to our local (big chain) pharmacy and they said you don't even need an appt for a measles boost! AND insurance covered it! 🎉

Your annual reminder that when it's this cold out, the responsible thing to do is fill water balloons and fancy cake pans with water (& food coloring). The only good ice!!

Big piece of teal-colored ice in the shape of a waterballoon

A sunflower-shaped cake pan has been filled with colored water, and the resulting ice shape is so pretty!

A big piece of clear ice shaped like a giant wiggly sperm

100% that it's a great tool for "rewrite this Eileen-words explanation to use business-speak instead" and I'm very glad that I don't have to use my human brain to do that, and also,,,,

(Which is part of why it's important to take medication early in a migraine instead of Toughing It Out – to help prevent said grooves from forming.)

My neurologist explained it as migraineur brains developing, like, behavioral grooves – the brain gets so used to being in that state, an incredibly small trigger (that for other people, or a year earlier, would be benign) is too much: blammo!

(not meant as an anger complaint! except about my brain I guess, I will complain about that all the live long day)

Eileen Webb @webmeadow.bsky.social · 09/11/2025

a fun fact, looking at images of this kind of shit can trigger it in people whose brains are prone ask me how I know, says the person who once walked by an art gallery full of paintings made by a lady about her migraines

One of my most favorite cozy reads (Hands of the Emperor, Victoria Goddard) does this masterfully – there's an entire giant catastrophe that pre-dates the events of the book and it's often referenced but never explained or detailed and she uses it SO WELL

Sure, but if I was city-livin' there's a good chance I'd need to wrestle it up stairs or into a weird back shed where removing weight would make it easier!

Eileen Webb @webmeadow.bsky.social · 19/09/2025

OH ALSO, the batteries are heavy and removing them makes wrangling the bike into rack/car/etc MUCH easier. So we end up removing them almost every time we ride. (We're very rural, often driving the bikes to trails elsewhere.)

Eileen Webb @webmeadow.bsky.social · 19/09/2025

We have two bikes and it's much easier to bring both batteries in, and charge them one-after-another, than to wrangle two chargers or swap the bikes' parking spot halfway through. (And it's so fussy to take out the battery, I also need the key to put it back in?? WHY)

Eileen Webb @webmeadow.bsky.social · 22/08/2025

we refer to this baptism as "mystery city water" and we have to ALWAYS assume it is innocuous AC water the alternative is not worth contemplating
