Philipp Ruch is a historian of ideas, who now has spent 3yrs researching a very focused question:how do we explain the sudden upsurge in the NSDAP vote in 1930? Isn’t that a good thing?-If a PhD students were to spend 3 years on this topic,we wouldn’t see a problem. So why do we see a problem here?

Sure - but the book is also 416 pages long. There is a lot in the book that is not in the interview. And, as I said, its strength is to be humble about what we know and what we don’t know and precisely not to say ‘I know it all’ but to invite us all to look anew at what happened in 1929 & 1930
