Woot! Little victories make life sweeter. 500-game Wordle streak achieved!
A screen shot of my Wordle stats, which shows that I completed a 500-game streak.

Margaret Hamilton famously suffered second-degree burns to her face and third-degree burns on her hands thanks to a malfunction of the mechanized trap door/lift, which was supposed to quickly let her disappear (while red smoke concealed her exit) before the flames appeared. So incredibly painful!

I spotted this beauty nestled on some dahlias last week.

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it? 😭 Billy Elliott: “She was just me mam.”
A very young Jamie Bell in the film “Billy Elliott.”

Fellow third-floor Rogers Park residents here. We see them all the time, ever since my husband installed a bird feeder last October. Birds by day, flying squirrels by night.
A handsome tuxedo cat sits on a windowsill, watching a flying squirrel in the bird feeder on the other side of the window.

It's always exciting to watch my secret second husband narrate the primary election returns on his Kornacki Cam. Explaining a state's electoral history! Crunching voting data on the fly! Parsing the granular details of demographics, county by county and district by district! DAMN I love a hot wonk.

Batman nails my sentiments about our country on its 250th birthday.
This old DC Comics PSA (from the 1950s, I am guessing, based on the art style) features Batman saying: "DON'T BELIEVE THOSE CRACKPOT LIES ABOUT PEOPLE WHO WORSHIP DIFFERENTLY, OR WHOSE SKIN IS OF A DIFFERENT COLOR, OR WHOSE PARENTS COME FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY. REMEMBER OUR AMERICAN HERITAGE OF FREEDOM AND EQUALITY!"

The vibes feel impeccable here at the Obama Presidential Center. Before the grand opening ceremony begins, the warmup playlist takes the crowd on a fun journey: Talking Heads, “Once in a Lifetime”; Bill Withers, “Lovely Day”; Bad Bunny, “Nuevayol”; Beyoncé, “Texas Hold ’Em.”

We don’t usually see each other’s headers. Here’s mine: David Lynch, photographed in Chicago 20 years ago, underneath the Belmont el tracks. I interviewed him while he was in town doing press for “Inland Empire.” Quote-skeet with your header (if you feel like it)

Incredible work from photographer Nicole Hester of the Tennessean: Attempting to attend a Senate Committee meeting about redistricting affecting his own city, state Rep. Justin Pearson is denied entry by the Sergeant at Arms, May 6, 2026.
TN state Rep. Justin Pearson, a Black man representing Memphis, is denied entry to a state Senate committee hearing about redistricting. Standing in his way, just a foot apart from Pearson, is a white man wearing a badge.

I scrolled quite a ways and didn’t see this. I’m sure someone has posted it but honestly it should be Top Five.

Always a great reminder. Also, I believe this is something written/said by Dan Savage in the context of the MAGA era. Whether one likes Dan Savage or not, his full quote is worth citing for its reminder to keep hoping, fighting, and dancing:
A quote from writer/activist Dan Savage: “During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night. The dance kept us in the fight because it was the dance we were fighting for. It didn't look like we were going to win then and we did. It doesn't feel like we're going to win now but we could. Keep fighting, keep dancing.”

This past week, I visited St. Raymond of Peñafort Catholic Church. (The suburban church hosted the funeral for a beloved 95-year-old, who passed peacefully in her sleep.) I don’t know when it was constructed — the ’60s? early ’70s? — but its relatively modern stained-glass windows are true stunners.
The enormous main stained-glass window of a church in Mt. Prospect, featuring a thin white spiral design swirling through ribbons of color, all illuminated by bright sunlight. Enjoyed some lovely public art along/near The 606 in Chicago on Sunday. This city remains glorious and its people joyous.
“There’s No Place Like Home” mosaic, in honor of Oz creator L. Frank Baum. A house alongside the elevated 606 trail, painted with a multicolored honeycomb pattern. A long structure alongside the elevated 606 trail, painted with large portraits of dogs and a hummingbird. A man and his black Labrador peer at the camera from behind a large sculpture along the 606. The sculpture is a lattice of multicolored eyeballs.

Death on the Nile has its flaws, but I’ll always love it for the killer cast (on location in Egypt!). Angela Lansbury deserved an Oscar nom for her hilarious scenery chewing as the alcoholic romance novelist: “Barman! This crocodile has lost its croc!”
