October severe thunderstorm risk Friday evening across Western Mass. & CT — localized wind gusts up to 65 mph. Lower risk of strong downdrafts as these storms move east into the night & weaken by the time they reach Boston. #mawx #ctwx #riwx #boston @bostonglobe.com

Winter Outlook released today by NOAA. Super El Nino fingerprints all over it. Warmer and wetter across New England. More coastal storms, but less snow. Winds are now westerly over the equator, which means the Polar Vortex may release fewer Arctic outbreaks. #winter #mawx #riwx #nhwx #boston

Fall foliage update — Northern New England is now past peak in chunks. High color & peak foliage are working south. Southern Vermont, New Hampshire, Central Maine, & the Berkshires are this weekend's hot spots. Saturday: clearing but blustery; Sunday is good! www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/15/m...

After Northern Maine saw a coating of snow last night, our next snow chances arrive Saturday morning. Mid to high elevations across Northern New England can see a scattered coating of wet snow on the backside of our next system. #nhwx #vtwx #mewx #boston @bostonglobe.com

Isaias remnant moisture arrives during the Patriots vs. Raiders game. Temps around 60, a breeze to 15 mph, & drizzle to light showers lurking — likely turning steady during the second half. Pats are 1-0 at home vs. Raiders with same weather. #boston #mawx #patriots #raiders #nfl @bostonglobe.com

Hurricane Isaias update — now a Cat 3, will likely make landfall as a Cat 2 later tonight/early Saturday by the Alabama-Florida border. Storm surge to 9 ft in spots, rain totals pushing 15" for some, & multiple tornadoes. Dangerous situation about to unfold by the Gulf Coast. #tropics #isaias

Major Hurricane Isaias — set to make landfall later today near the Florida-Alabama line, likely as a Cat 2 storm. There's a decent tornado risk on top of coastal flooding, strong winds, & flooding rainfall. #flwx #alwx #isaias @bostonglobe.com

El Niño continues to intensify —  seas ~4°C (7.2°F) above average by Dec. We've seen El Niño impacts in the Pacific tropics. New England saw the 7th-warmest summer on record, a September nor'easter, & likely less snow this winter. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/08/m... #elnino @bostonglobe.com

Northern Lights alert! There is a low-to-medium chance of the Northern Lights breaking out over New England tonight, under mostly clear skies, too. On the northern horizon or phone for Southern New England, potentially higher in the sky up north. Times? 11p-12am, 3- 5:30am. Set your alarm!

Tropical Storm Isaias — expect this storm to rapidly intensify into a Category 2 or 3 hurricane before making landfall — likely between LA & FL Panhandle. Even bad storms occur in quiet seasons; it looks like Isaias will tap into record-setting seas & a light enough window of wind shear. #flwx

Nor'easter is losing steam but still looks prominent across the Northeast. The center will drift over Southeast New England late Monday, with scattered light showers rotating over the region as it does so. Tuesday remains cloudy with a few slivers of sunshine cracking through during the afternoon.

Nor'easter update — winds start to relax, but still gusts of 25-45 mph. Rain totals for Boston sit at ~1.5", with 2-6" as you head south to the Cape. Expect another 1-2" today for Boston to Worcester County and through much of Rhode Island. Flooding possible in spots. #mawx #riwx #boston

Ken Mahan @weatherken.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Technically speaking, this is not a tropical storm, but visually, it's very similar. You can see the center of circulation just south of New England. Why not tropical? This nor'easter does not have a warm core fueled by warm seas, but is fueled by clashing air masses over an old frontal boundary.

Ken Mahan @weatherken.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
As the nor'easter inches closer, we should see these bands build & slide north, putting Greater Boston into heavier rain within the next several hours and lasting into the night. Expect some water ponding on roadways and in low-lying areas.

Ken Mahan @weatherken.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
The heaviest rain for this nor'easter comes Saturday mid-afternoon/evening and into Sunday. Wide range in rain totals by Monday, depending on where bands & the heavier clusters set up. Winds remain strong through Saturday night, a touch better on Sunday. #noreaster #mawx #nhwx #riwx #boston

Night nor'easter — wind gusts are reported to reach 50-70 mph across the Cape, with a 70 mph gust in Wellfleet. Bands of heavy rain rotate in throughout Saturday; expect rain totals of 1-3" today, similar for Sunday—heaviest by the coast. Winds to 55 mph continue. #mawx #riwx #boston #noreaster

#Nor'easter arrives on the southern #NewEngland coast around 1- 3 p.m., #Boston ~ 5. Friday night, things deteriorate. Saturday is the worst day — rounds of heavy rain, strong winds, flooding in spots & along the coast. Sunday will be about 60-70% as intense as Saturday, with more breaks.

Tracking a coastal storm that might turn into a nor'easter late Thursday/early Friday. Models are split on a classic nor'easter with gusty winds, heavy rain, & coastal flooding to a complete miss. I'm thinking we see more of a clip than a miss here. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/21/m... #mawx

Some confidence in a potential tropical disturbance in the North Atlantic by next weekend — New England should see coastal showers and some heavy rain. Still very early — we'll see how much juice is left in a front that breaks down over the region and what emerges; models are all over the place.

Nepal natural disaster explained: excessive heat = thinning, unstable glacier. The mountainside glacier collapsed, releasing a massive pool of water that acted as a tsunami, once slamming the barrier lake. Water & debris flow then compressed (like putting your thumb over a hose = more power).
