The last 2 Octobers delivered massive Northern Lights events across New England & the U.S. Will see see a "threepeat"? We are quickly coming down from Solar Max 25, but the chances aren't zero. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/30/m... #aurora #northernlights #mawx #riwx #nhwx #boston @bostonglobe.com

Nor'easter is losing steam but still looks prominent across the Northeast. The center will drift over Southeast New England late Monday, with scattered light showers rotating over the region as it does so. Tuesday remains cloudy with a few slivers of sunshine cracking through during the afternoon.

Nor'easter update — winds start to relax, but still gusts of 25-45 mph. Rain totals for Boston sit at ~1.5", with 2-6" as you head south to the Cape. Expect another 1-2" today for Boston to Worcester County and through much of Rhode Island. Flooding possible in spots. #mawx #riwx #boston

Technically speaking, this is not a tropical storm, but visually, it's very similar. You can see the center of circulation just south of New England. Why not tropical? This nor'easter does not have a warm core fueled by warm seas, but is fueled by clashing air masses over an old frontal boundary.

As the nor'easter inches closer, we should see these bands build & slide north, putting Greater Boston into heavier rain within the next several hours and lasting into the night. Expect some water ponding on roadways and in low-lying areas.

The heaviest rain for this nor'easter comes Saturday mid-afternoon/evening and into Sunday. Wide range in rain totals by Monday, depending on where bands & the heavier clusters set up. Winds remain strong through Saturday night, a touch better on Sunday. #noreaster #mawx #nhwx #riwx #boston

Night nor'easter — wind gusts are reported to reach 50-70 mph across the Cape, with a 70 mph gust in Wellfleet. Bands of heavy rain rotate in throughout Saturday; expect rain totals of 1-3" today, similar for Sunday—heaviest by the coast. Winds to 55 mph continue. #mawx #riwx #boston #noreaster

#Nor'easter arrives on the southern #NewEngland coast around 1- 3 p.m., #Boston ~ 5. Friday night, things deteriorate. Saturday is the worst day — rounds of heavy rain, strong winds, flooding in spots & along the coast. Sunday will be about 60-70% as intense as Saturday, with more breaks.

High wind & coastal flooding watches are popping up across Southern New England — Friday evening through Saturday night, renewed for Sunday. Timing: Friday night — Sunday night Impacts: 4-7" of rain, 10-foot breaking waves, winds up to 55 mph. Scattered flooding & power outages. #boston #mawx

Coastal storm/nor'easter update: Timing is Friday through Sunday, with multi-day totals of 4-5" for some. Minor coastal flooding & beach erosion for south-facing beaches. Storm track still messy; likely stalls just south of New England. Wind gusts of 50 mph. #mawx #riwx #noreaster #ctwx #mewx

Tracking a coastal storm that might turn into a nor'easter late Thursday/early Friday. Models are split on a classic nor'easter with gusty winds, heavy rain, & coastal flooding to a complete miss. I'm thinking we see more of a clip than a miss here. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/21/m... #mawx

Some confidence in a potential tropical disturbance in the North Atlantic by next weekend — New England should see coastal showers and some heavy rain. Still very early — we'll see how much juice is left in a front that breaks down over the region and what emerges; models are all over the place.

A new record for the 1st hurricane of the season in the Atlantic sets tomorrow (9/11). It's been over 100 years since we've seen a hurricane-free season, so could that record be next? Of the 5 tropical storms this year, we've seen a record-low ACE too. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/09/m...

Fall foliage outlook for New England! Best chance for a normal foliage season we've seen in a few years. Last winter's snow totals + some good precipitation in summer despite the heat should make the leaves pop better. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/09/04/m... #mawx #riwx #nhwx @bostonglobe.com

Nepal natural disaster explained: excessive heat = thinning, unstable glacier. The mountainside glacier collapsed, releasing a massive pool of water that acted as a tsunami, once slamming the barrier lake. Water & debris flow then compressed (like putting your thumb over a hose = more power).
