There is to this day a segment of people who understand what the third act of Empire is actually doing and what it's adding to the overall story of the trilogy and another segment of people who only like it because:

The third act of The Empire Strikes Back is the root cause of the rift in the Star Wars fandom.

Its also they've clearly curbed the homework issue BY centering it on A. Doom, a new character B. Steve, a character who hasn't appeared since 2019 & most people seeing it know very well C. Reed, who only has one prior movie Like There's a reason the big banner art was composed to center those 3

Imagine being the guy who made 2 movies that expertly deconstruct conservative, nationalist, and what we now would call Incel behaviors just to become one later in life. Crazy fuckin work

@infinata.bsky.social would you say this is a fair assessment/interpretation of the First Order's reign?

Isn't this a question Charles Soule answered in his recent Marvel series though? In issues 26-28 we meet the Meltons who are Crimson Dawn double agents and defect and tell the Rebellion* about the DS2 *Including Luke, even tho the opening crawl for Jedi says this (pardon my horrible underlining):

"Sgt. Rock and Clayface aren't gonna make money" Ah yes because we all know Historical movies and body horror are totally unprofitable right now and can't be marketed in ways that'll make money.

Long live the greatest fucking characters in fiction, man.

I know it says it in my display name, but genuinely, I can not fucking wait for this Superman film, man. I truly believe in my heart of hearts it's gonna be something special and the film I've always been waiting for.

But with the advent of Dawn of DC and the transition into All-In where almost every book has been dynamite, and with someone like James Gunn who I trust implicitly at the helm of the cinematic stuff, it feels like DC is in a great place.

It's not always been easy to be a DC fan, ESPECIALLY in the 2010s (most of the new 52, the back half of Rebirth, and the Zack Snyderverse which can get fucked).

The DC omniverse truly is an endless well of ideas, from goofy shit like Captain Carrot to the galaxy brained concepts of Planetary.

100

Mason Harris @weaponizedfunk.bsky.social · 18/11/2024

Even beyond the bounds of earth-prime, when you look at books like The Authority or Planetary you find comics that as much as I love Marvel you really don't find anything even close to that level of quality and conceptual vastness.

100

Mason Harris @weaponizedfunk.bsky.social · 18/11/2024

Part of that came down to when I came in, at the height of Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run and the transition from the end of Justice League Unlimited to the straight to DVD animated movie line but they've consistently been characters I can go to for a great escape from the bullshit of the real world

It's home to me. I never get sick of it. I'm always engrossed whether I'm reading a new issue of say Absolute Batman or a random issue of Secret Origins from the 1980s. Superman is my favorite character of all time and the whole pantheon are just the characters that I gravitate toward the most.

Mason Harris @weaponizedfunk.bsky.social · 18/11/2024

And I'm a huge fan of stuff like Middle earth, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Universal Monsters, Zelda, Terminator, Alien/Predator, Romero Zombies, Transformers, etc., but as I've gotten older the more I've come to realize that the DC Universe really is my favorite of all the fictional universes.

I love Marvel to death, Star Wars means the world to me on a level that if you've ever followed me on any site you know how much it means to me, Godzilla is an integral part of my DNA. 🧵

It's between Swamp Thing by Alan Moore and Warren Ellis and John Cassaday's Planetary. Swamp Thing because its an examination of America through the history of horror fiction and is a road map of how to redefine a character. And Planetary because its a love letter to comics themselves.
