WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 15mSeriously not a lot of good happens these days but "hey that game you were enjoying? It has a sequel coming out almost immediately and you're going to experience absolute peak" is 100% something to treasure 010
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 27mI also happened to do this more or less by chance - picked up AC7 on a whim recently, enjoyed it a fair amount, and then discovered AC8 was coming out shortly and got straight up blown away. Do play through 7 if you're digging it, it's worth doing so as it's still fun 231
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 45mIt really is kinda crazy that you just kind of assume that a) yes it's a problem and b) the odds of anything disrupting it are highly remote and it's just a permanent background feature of modern life. Then someone flies an explosive drone into it and it turns out it dies as easy as anything else 011
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Lmao at the reciprocating carving knife at the end there 000
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It's much like regular basketball except there's always one guy who respawns a basketball a few seconds after taking a shot and consequently dominated the league 010

WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yeah +1 for the "I met my wife on OKC (albeit not in the US)" crowd, it was a good dating site at least for a while 010
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I played the shit out of it and it's so good just on the bare PVP experience, can't wait to see what they do with a dedicated PvE mode since the Vaultbreaker mode was both a) fun and b) super useful for learning Cryo Archive, esp. for game that's so reliant on positioning and map knowledge 000
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 20/09/2026In fairness, it's underused because anything other than "circular" runs the risk of the disc fracturing in the drive 032
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 17/09/2026We also have zero inhibition about killing other intelligent species and are generally stronger and faster than everything else which makes us perfect shock troopers for a galactic war against telepathic squids 0311
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Alan Dean Foster's "The Damned" trilogy has something similar in which humans are considerably more violent than other intelligent species and are consequently immune to telepathic interference, with any attempt to do so causing extreme psychological shock to the intruder 2380
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 14/09/20263 on the sides, if you're asking, and I could do with a beard trim, a hot towel over the face and some NishMan aftershave 040
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I went to an unlicensed barber and they gave me "The MP Special" (carved the top of my head off and replaced my brains with dogshit and wadded tissues) so I think there's some need for regulation to make sure people don't do that and instead get the haircuts that they want (short back and sides) 1343
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Yeah I *think* there's both an M&S food and possibly a Waitrose on the ground floor - the Gail's and the Greggs are on the mezzanine overlooking the concourse, but if you wander around the ground floor shops you should find something. 010

WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 30/08/2026I may be completely misremembering this but the earliest "Groimes" post I remember seeing was on the SA forums. Something like "Groimes. I took too much icid Groimes. Hoeld me." 140
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I remember that cinema! Used to be the ABC back in my day, and this being Halifax it's obviously a nightclub now 000
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 25/08/2026In the scenarios where it -is- useful, it's mostly for initial orientation as to the what and the why. Crucially, I find that the litmus test for whether I'm "effectively" using AI to learn is that over time I use it *less*. 000
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Where I find them most useful is in scenarios with a technical outcome that I can quickly test against. For example, they were very helpful in working out how to do certain things in blender geometry nodes, where the stakes and time to iterate/meaningfully test are low 110
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 24/08/2026"Transformers work well for protein structure prediction" is true because that specific problem is entirely defined by understanding statistical relationships between elements of a sequence, it does not imply "Transformers are therefore the solution to /all/ problems, including general intelligence" 010
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 24/08/2026I broadly agree with this but I don't know if revealed preference genuinely accounts for all of it or whether there are other systemic issues (very high rents, business rates etc) that genuinely preclude services that people want that might otherwise "get by" in a less hostile market environment 120
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 19/08/2026The way AI is used in this workflow - down to what they even mean by "AI" - is considerably different to the thing that everyone has a justifiable distaste for. This is, in functional terms, applied statistics used in a way that is appropriate to the problem 230
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 14/08/2026On the plus side, those massive swings in power demand also seem to be cooking the turbines that they hook up to these things, since they're designed for a constant base load. They're quite literally doing Stuxnet shit to their equipment 020
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 08/08/2026You do those inner curves freehand? Because that is some good work 110
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Modern lithium batteries are themselves amazing - the charging time, the duration, the weight, the fact that you don't get any drop-off in power until they're fully empty, the fact that they don't go flat if you leave them for a week. Infinitely better than the old NiCad 020
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 24/07/2026And calcium gluconate cream/injection is basically saying "here, you might as well treat yourself with this, it won't do much, but at least it's a distraction" 010

WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 24/07/2026I looked it up and holy fuck I didn't believe it at first either but yes they motherfucking do. As someone very familiar with semiconductor manufacturing processes and just how nasty HF is, this is blowing my mind. It's equivalent to finding out that they use nerve gas just to make cookies chewy. 3250
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 17/07/2026This is, to be clear, something of a stab at understanding the mindset, not a well-grounded academic analysis 010
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 17/07/2026I think it's taxes - if you can have a "thing" to be rich in that /isn't/ innately tied to the underlying value of the issuing society, you can essentially divorce yourself from the pesky requirements and obligations (taxes) that come with being wealthy in e.g dollars or pounds 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 27/06/2026V funny though to imagine this guy having brand loyalty though. He's locked into the DeWalt XR ecosystem now. Having beef with another goon who insists Milwaukee are better. 030
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Man who robs a place with a DeWalt nailgun, if it's a first fix then that's like $500 just buy an actual gun at that point 150
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026But for a single room (usually the bedroom, which is where the heat goes from "unpleasant" to "actively ruining my fucking life"), this is to my mind the best portable AC bet. If you need to be able to move it, a single box unit is probably more convenient 000
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026This is - I will note - not fucking cheap, but it's also considerably less than having a full installed mini-split system throughout the house, which will run into the thousands. Of course, with the way things are going, this may still be a sensible investment 100

WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Also avoid no-name brands. Qlima and Prem-I-Air are the ones I would be looking for (or - for the Tory option - Trotec). Good news is that prices are competitive on portable mini-splits Vs single box - e.g this Qlima 5000BTU split unit runs about £600 210
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026These are *rarer* in the UK - Google "portable AC" and you usually find the kind that Dan has. However, they can be found (they are sometimes known as Caravan AC units too). It also depends on your tolerance for fucking around with retaining frames and having a big box on the windowsill 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026And of course, being in the UK, there's a good chance that you have the kind of window that opens like a door (i.e in the vertical) rather than a sash or horizontal-opening window which makes everything a bit more of a faff. Having said that, I would recommend a portable mini-split 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Most AC units for sale will tell you their BTU rating - rule of thumb is about 20BTU per square foot of the room you want to cool. Of course, factors such as insulation/sun facing/big fucking windows etc will change this to an extent. 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026The "single box" ones (as helpfully illustrated by @dandouglas.bsky.social above) do work, but the vent hose tends to be quite wide and you usually need to rely on a window kit to mount the hose through and keep hot air/bugs/pollution out. Of course, these are all "single room" kits 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026The heat exchanger needs to be mechanically supported - If it doesn't come with a frame for hanging it from the window, you can usually get one, or install a more permanent bracket. Slightly more hassle, but they cool better as they don't create a vacuum that pulls hot air into the room 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026This, for reference, is an example of a portable mini-split. The unit that blows cold air goes indoors and the unit that kicks that heat out goes outdoors, usually through a window. The "umbilicus" that connects them is full of refrigerant gas so you need to be careful with it, but they are better 100
WeakShock @weakshock.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Really depends on your needs, but portable AC comes in two main flavours: a) the more familiar one, a single box that contains the compressor and heat exchanger and vents through a window b) portable "mini-split" systems that split the heat exchanger off from the compressor 210
