#China #cleantech exports - #solar, #wind, #batteries & #EVs - avoided 374 MtCO2 in 2025, more than total #UK emissions, says the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. Over their lifetime, these 2025 exports will avoid 6,900 MtCO2, a 31% increase from 2024 and 2X #India annual emissions.

The Ukraine & Iran wars have pushed coal demand up 1.2% this year (IEA), but Carbon Brief says global CO2 emissions will still fall. In China, coal use rose, but emissions fell 1% in Q2 as oil use for transport dropped 16% and EV sales hit records. IEA predicts zero oil growth in 2027 #cleantech

A rooftop #solar revolution has helped the #UK break its previous record for the amount of solar power generated in a single month. Solar provided 14.4% of the UK’s electricity in July, breaking the 12.4% record set in May, and way up on the 9.6% recorded last July.

A #Finnish town has slashed emissions from its district heating system by 70% with the help of the world’s largest sand #battery. The 13m-tall silo – in the town of Pornainen – contains 2,000 tonnes of crushed soapstone, which is heated using #renewable electricity, often at cheap, off peak rates.

#Deforestation in the Brazilian #Amazon has fallen to its lowest level in a decade, according to fresh data from the country’s National Space Agency. In the first half of 2026, some 500 sq miles of #rainforest was cleared, compared to 807 sq miles over the same period in 2025 – a 38% decrease.

Let's do some Canadian pipeline-wildfire math. The Canadian Energy Center says growing oil exports by 1.5M barrels/day **could** boost GDP by ~31B annually. Meanwhile, wildfire smoke health costs alone - just the health costs, nothing else - averaged 23B/year, past tense. And they're growing fast.
