A Charter School Spent $500,000 on AI-Powered Humanoid Robots. Was It Worth It?
Officials at a charter chain known for credit recovery made a couple of big-dollar purchases in the form of ChatGPT-powered robots. Researchers are skeptical they’re worth the dough.

"AI" is not a stochastic parrot.🦜 I wrote this piece a couple weeks ago, but it was hard for me to finish up given AI's role in society and war over the past few weeks. I should share it at some point though. Not perfect, but here it is. medium.com/@margarmitch...

800 Olympic Swimming pools a day, the same as 100,000 hosepipes on all the time. That is how much water is leaking from the Water Companies broken pipes. But it is you they blame.

Norway has increased its Student Grant to more than 14,000 Euros. It is now paying its Students 1.5x more than England, Wales and Northern Ireland are charging them. One of us had our fossil fuel stolen and sold by thieves. The other didn't. Can you guess which is which?

Typical: white man at an AI conference trying to convince the small group of women and people of color that AI bias isn't that big of a deal, coz all isms are overrated anyway.

If the Green Party had the same coverage as Reform it would be them winning in a landslide. But of course the Green Party would actually tax the billionaires, so they won't platform them.

Why does Starmer's Labour Party seem determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Because it hates the left more than it fears the far right. As a result it won't do the "left" things so many of its potential supporters are crying out for.

You’re telling me that right wing voters that Labour was trying to appeal to voted for a right wing party anyway and left wing voters decided not to vote for Labour because they’re too right wing now? Who could have possibly predicted this.

where to start without all the words coming together and forming a piercing, incoherent, screaming sound...
Researchers are alleged to be using algorithms to analyse the information of thousands of people, including victims of crime, as they try to identify those at greatest risk of committing serious violent offences.Statewatch says data from people not convicted of any criminal offence will be used as part of the project, including personal information about self-harm and details relating to domestic abuse. Officials strongly deny this, insisting only data about people with at least one criminal conviction has been used.A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “This project is being conducted for research purposes only. It has been designed using existing data held by HM Prison and Probation Service and police forces on convicted offenders to help us better understand the risk of people on probation going on to commit serious violence. A report will be published in due course.”

The way "AI" systems are presented as "social companions to fight loneliness" is very similar in how "AI" is supposed to help teaching: Both are founded in a massive misunderstanding of the social dynamics techies try to replace.
