Post from Rebecca Solnit on Facebook:

“Report (and may someone in the Bay Area launch a sister program): A group of volunteers based out of a USC Dornsife program established a free hotline to help those with in-person immigration hearings file motions to move their appointments online.

“The service is made possible through the Agents of Change Civil Rights Advocacy Initiative, spearheaded by program founder and political science and international relations professor Olu Orange. It's supported by Orange's private law firm, Orange Law Office, and the National Immigration Project (NIP).

“It is not affiliated with the USC Gould School of Law, or its Immigration Law Clinic. The clinic reposted the hotline number and clarified they were not involved, advising individuals to consult with a "qualified legal service provider" before filing motions in immigration hearings.

“Calls to the Agents of Change hotline go directly to the phone numbers of about 15 volunteers.

“Whoever's available takes down the caller's name and case number, then helps them fill out paperwork to request that their immigration-related court hearing be moved online.

“Each of the unpaid volunteers are a USC student, faculty or alumni, or the trusted friend of a current volunteer. It is Orange who ultimately files the motion by mail and e-mail. He said there was no guarantee that motions would pass, nor does the hotline have the capacity to offer legal advice.”

Spread the word. (If someone can accurately translate the text below into Spanish and share that, I’ll amplify the translation!)
Screenshot of a tweet (?) from user handle thekatadventure:

“IMPORTANT

USC law students have started a hotline for people to call when they have an immigration-related court hearing but don't want to show up in person for fear of being arrested/ detained by ICE outside the courthouse. The students will help people complete and submit a "Motion to Change Hearing Format," which can allow someone to have a remote/online hearing instead of in-person.

hotline # is (888) 462-5211

They can help in English or Spanish”

Something to cleanse your feed: My youngest made this by herself. She had watched a video on how to make yarn animals a few days ago, and then she improvised this (without any videos) tonight. Pockets of joy are still out there, loves. Find them and hold them close.

I made a fish pie (or an oversized kulebyaka) last night with salmon, potatoes, tartar sauce, horseradish, duxelles, carmelized onions, dill, and spinach encased in dairy-free puff pastry. Made to share. I’m grateful for all I have, and I hope I can give even more away.
Overhead photo of the rectangular fish pie as it looked straight out of the oven: the puff pastry is golden and crispy and perfect.Side angle photo of the fish pie with a square slice taken out of it. The layers of ingredients inside the crust look colorful and delicious.

I totally get the need to keep FB and IG for many people (I’m one of those people). I found this advice from Alexandria Lustig (username turbofunk_ on Threads) helpful, and maybe some of you will, too.
Threads app user turbofunk_ posted:

If you can't delete your meta platform accounts be you use them for your business or other essential communication, I recommend you at least do this:

1. Open FB, go to accounts center
2. Go to Your information and permissions
3. Go to Your activity off Meta technologies
4. Clear previous activity, and
5. Click Manage future activity, then
6. Click Disconnect future activity (confirm x2!)

It can take 48 hrs to display the update but this helps meta NOT profit off of your info

Heads up regarding voter’s registration in Texas (and apparently a few other states like Tennessee): TEXAS DOES NOT OFFER ONLINE REGISTRATION!
But the website makes it look like it does!
You can fill out the form and hit submit but then you have to print it off and mail it or drop it off to a registered location.
You can go to libraries to register!
So please let people who are not registered know this! If they just fill out the form & hit submit they won't be registered.

Sometimes your body lets you know that it will only accept tacos as fuel for the day. Best do as your body tells you, friends.

Last night’s dinner: Miso butter* chicken thighs on a salad made of iceberg lettuce, clover and radish sprouts, cucumber chunks, and chopped parsley, topped with homemade carrot ginger dressing. Garlicky mukimame on the side. (*I used Miyoko’s brand vegan butter for this.)

Last night, I made fettuccine with a thick marinara that had lots of garlic, hot Italian sausage, and spinach stirred in. I topped the plated pasta with fresh oregano and basil, as well as grated Parmigiana Reggiano. I made garlic bread and Caesar salad as sides.
Photo of the dinner Sea prepared for her family last night, as described in the photo caption. It looks delicious.
