... oh yeah, speaking of, soon?

Cropped work-in-progress sketch of Shantae with her eyes closed.

idk if i ever mentioned this but whenever i draw Shantae i like to make her ponytail into the shape of an S, kinda like how this art from the Seven Sirens has it in the shape of a 5. i think it's cute.

Teaser art for "Shantae and the Seven Sirens". Shantae's in a dancing pose while her ponytail is in the shape of a 5.

i think Sonic with a sword is cool objectively i'll at least say the people who reviewed the game in the 2000s were wrong about that even if i get the point at hand

primarily because of the storytelling and hype moments and aura from what i can understand. idk, Black Knight's a guilty pleasure for me but its definitely an acquired taste

Just gonna share this amazingly well-written article again, cuz it literally goes into the issue with IDW discourse and how it pertains to the fandom's issue with 'puritanism' at large. This has been a problem for years. ponett.dog/blog/lanolin...

IDW Sonic: On Lanolin the Sheep, and the problem with Sonic Twitter

A deep dive into the story of one of the most controversial IDW Sonic characters, and how algorithmic social media and fandom expectations made her so controversial in the first place. This is it, at ...

nah honestly the way miitopia switch does it is pretty neat too. it can have this one

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 7h

honestly the issue is likely just a byproduct of the incredibly black and white thinking you see nowadays where something is either an "absolutely perfect masterpiece" or an "inexcusably awful disaster with no redeeming qualities" and nothing else. so in short i blame the American grading sysyem.

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 7h

whenever people bring this up they usually point out the inconsistent proportions or Knuckles's design which like. while yeah some of its fair it also kinda conveniently leaves out how case sensitive certain sprites are. not everything is meant to be universal or seen for long.

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 7h

as someone who was unfortunately part of Sonic Twitter for a while... yeah

030

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 7h

part of the issue for me is how black and white a lot of these arguments are, like. i think it just depends and is very case by case idk 😭

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 7h

i sort of understand it in a "this doesn't really do much to innovate the series" sense especially when compared to the Advance games but i think it also neglects to acknowledge that the last 2D Sonic game at the time was fucking Sonic 4 😭😭😭

how it feels to like any Sonic game released after 2009 online:

actually so true. and i'm happy that his mother was very proud.

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

idk not to sound bad faith about it but i find it especially hard to stomach when Mania gets singled out as bad... but then 06 gets propped up as a hidden gem??? maybe i'm just committing the Goomba fallacy by saying that but i'm aware that entire 2000s era is sacred to the current community so. idk

3520

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

a vocal side of the current Sonic fanbase from what i understand really does not jive with Mania because of the lack of new levels, it replicating 3 & Knuckles's gameplay philosophies, and the sprite work.

590

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

i will contest that it would've been nice to have more original levels but the actual game feel and level design itself are so top notch. Mania was literally my time waster for three years after launch and what got me back into Sonic. it is a very good game.

2600

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

i will say one of the three or so recent Gen Z Gaming Hot Takes(TM) i straight up reject is the notion that Sonic Mania is actually garbage and not an authentic Sonic game, and that Black Knight is still the last "real" Sonic game.

231417

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

also i don't really know if giving the player "too much" control is an issue here vs. with Animal Crossing? you're literally making Miis, customizable avatars by default. that argument doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

2541

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

while it's a shame the concert hall isn't included i think just the fact the customization has been expanded greatly makes it more worthwhile for me. who knows maybe they'll randomly update it with that. Nintendo loves doing that a lot (including with New Horizons funnily enough).

1691

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

people compare it a lot to AC New Horizons in a negative sense because that was a game that many waited a long time for and were let down by because of a lot of content being missing at launch and some of the charm being neutered. me personally i don't really think LTD has that issue

1681

autumn @waveprism.bsky.social · 8h

i think Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is ultimately a better game than the 3DS installment even if its missing some things but i think part of the "problem" for me is the fact i'm no longer a kid with endless free time. or just somebody with free time period.

The NYT story is a great example of NYT making informing readers subordinate to pushing their agenda. If you read it carefully, it's clear that Democrats have largely decided to counter attack by saying Rs are obsessed with trans issues and neglecting things that impact ordinary Americans.
