London Marathon have published the Good for Age qualifying details for 2027. Good news - the qualifying times are unchanged, and I'm nearly six minutes within the cutoff. Bad news - despite it being a two-day event, the GFA places are still capped fastest-first at 3,000 men and 3,000 women.

Geoffrey Palmer did a far longer list and didn’t stumble over any of it, and, crucially, was portraying an absurd fictional character and not expecting to be taken seriously.

I've seen Marillion live between fifty and sixty times. Watching tonight from the lower circle, front row centre, at Usher Hall reminded me why. These songs are threaded through my entire adult life. They and their creators feel like friends. It's so good to have regular get-togethers.

I'm revisiting Philip K. Dick's "A Maze of Death" having previously read it in early 1985. This time I've noticed a reference to the retinex theory of colour vision of scientist Edwin Land. He is also the Land after whom the Polaroid Land Camera is named.

Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultramarathon training week 12 of 14 complete. 36.52 miles, all comfortable. With two weeks to go, that's my peak volume behind me as I taper down the mileage from now. New mandatory kit; waterproof jacket, soft flasks, dry bag, and folding cup all acquired. I feel ready.

I haven't heard "landed up" for a while. It definitely means "came to rest after an activity", like "ended up", whereas "fetched up", or more recently "rocked up", means "arrived before an activity". "I rocked up at the check in desk in good time but landed up in the overflow hotel all the same."

Years ago, I was often dismayed by other people's lower standards in audio or video fidelity than mine. There was no adequate social response when I'd given someone a blank cassette for them to record LPs they owned, and got it back recorded in mono via an air gap to a built-in-microphone.

Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultramarathon training week 11 of 14 complete. I ran 43 miles despite an annoying cold laying me up for two days, finishing with a sedate 24-miler this afternoon, along the route I'll be running in under three weeks, on my feet for nearly five hours.
The author, in a bathroom, about to go out and run for nearly five hours, contriving to get his legs and feet into what is supposedly a running photo, at the cost of his dignity, and increasingly facially resembling the character "Foodie Bollocks" from Viz.

I was planning to run 24 miles today, but I'm stricken with a chest cold. While it's quite nice not to be running 24 miles, I'm still going to have to do it in the next few days, which is slightly hanging over me. But not as much as having to run 57 miles three weeks tomorrow.

"The Prisoner" and Doctor Who's "The Masque of Mandragora" were filmed in Portmeirion. The English name "mandrake" derives from Latin mandragora. Some think Patrick McGoohan's No. 6 in "The Prisoner" is John Drake, who he played in "Danger Man". Portmeirion hosted both mandrake and the man Drake!

I'm learning a short piano piece by the composer Georg Benda. If you are a Doctor Who fan, you cannot see this name without recalling the first time you saw the closing credits to "The Claws of Axos", especially if you were a puerile adolescent boy at the time. (See also; Kristopher Kum).

I’ve started the day with Blake’s Seven’s “Bounty”, which I’ve always liked. It seems oddly light on Nation-isms, bar the Amagons taking over Liberator, and a single timer-fuse grenade. The location film has scrubbed up beautifully, although the studio sound is distant at times.

I went to our neighbour Ramsay's funeral today. First time I've ever been to one just by myself, because my father-in-law took a sudden turn for the worse in hospital yesterday so spouse headed down there first thing. Far more depleting when unaccompanied by my skilled social enabler.

If anyone asks what I did this weekend, I'll say I went to see The Eagles. A fly on the screen during "Breakaway" went away for "The Metamorph", because I imagine even flies have a modicum of taste. I've never seen a queue of other men in their sixties for the loo at the Cameo like this before.

It's 27 years to the day since a massive nuclear explosion tore the moon out of Earth's orbit, so I'm obviously going to the pictures to watch "Breakaway" and "The Metamorph". I missed the former on Granada's original TX, and I don't know whether I've ever seen the latter at all. #space1999

Just been out for a four-hour 22 mile ultramarathon training run. I dragged six albums on to a playlist. "Drama" (Yes), "Abacab" (Genesis), "Signals" (Rush), "Afraid of Sunlight" (Marillion) and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" (Iron Maiden). There is no quicksand on any of these for me.
