I have a relative who has done this, but he quite literally has a developmental disorder, and if he weren't raised by caring middle management parents who could in fact get him the psychiatry he needs probably would've literally murdered someone by this point.

Some of the most effective tactics I've seen to deal with them use radical empathy, because a lot of them believe a lot of bullshit you can surprisingly quickly drag them out of by exposure. Of course, hurling insults at them can also rattle them pretty badly, so ymmv. We contain multitudes.

well, earth mover's distance is also fairly commonly used as a measure of distance in statistics. This is just an abstraction of that to measure spaces one might consider unnatural

yeah pause indefinitely just seems like the wrong strategy, I'm more interested in "pause until we get actual adults who come up with a sane regulatory framework to avoid the worst outcomes in the places where the frontier is getting trained". If the workers of Ant, OAI, and GDM were all part of a union (e.g. a frontier AI guild), they could cooperate in ways that are illegal collusion for corporations. IMO, that would be a stronger alternative but achieve similar goals (slowdown for safety) of a cartel.
