ah, not as iterative as it might have been, given more time

I have many thoughts about using generative images, a large one being "we need to be way, way more thoughtful about their training and use". But there's also the lens of "they're the next step in a long evolution of tooling for creating expression", which feels important to explore

love your writing, Robin. I totally agree that it's not a great or fully fleshed out example, just playing around with the medium with very my little free time.

this I can agree with! This time I was struck by a combination of no time (baby, new job, ++😅) and I honestly was just enjoying the little felt people. I think it's especially sloppy for the full-width images, just a side effect of my eternal effort to keep my inner perfectionist in check

hm, I understand your sentiment but I'm not sure I agree. Happy to discuss if you're looking for a discussion!

sharing my silly workflow to create transitions between images: 1. throw images in an auto layout in @figma.com 2. clip a new image with the bottom and top of the two images 3. throw in Midjourney edit and generate some new images 4. paste that new image back into Figma and clip it

thank you, this is all very kind! "It gives each piece this feeling that the topic mattered to the author" I really love the way you framed that. Half of the reason is that I prefer writing code to words, but you're totally right here as well. And I love your Turing Machines post!

I use both, depending on the context! imo, Svelte is a wonderful starting point - feels closer to the native web and has the right amount of magic. React is great because the ecosystem is massive and it's easy to find npm deps for common components, etc.

historical events are all jumbled up in my mind, on their own timeline. Wouldn't it be great to have a "World Time Explorer" that helps stitch together those timelines? buggy and probably better on a map, but throwing this idea into a ui to start playing around

what's going on in the video?! the input is the text of an article (you can either paste/type text or speak), which gets split up into cards that are automatically grouped into larger categories.

This is legit - the organizers (including unions) are organizing. When I ask those in the know what we can do that will actually matter, the answer includes collective action of this type. I'm joining @nancykanwisher.bsky.social and all the others for this Thurs 3p ET effort. I hope you do too!
