Every time I get peer review, I’m amazed by how thoughtful & constructive most reviewers are (whoever you are — thank you). They often point out things I hadn’t considered and make me a better researcher. Peer review as a system may be in trouble, but I’ve been a major beneficiary of the process.

By addressing both motivation and the controllability of weight gain, the therapy aims to make recovery feel more achievable and less frightening.

The approach helps people address psychological barriers. "Part of what we're doing is helping people work through all of the motivational issues early on in therapy, while at the same time learning that they can gain weight and it doesn't feel terrible" he explains.

Glenn and colleagues have been developing and testing a briefer form of therapy for anorexia nervosa, designed to be as effective as 40-session therapy, but delivered in half the time.

Anorexia nervosa is a serious and complex mental health condition, and the devastation caused by the illness is often compounded by lengthy NHS waiting lists. Anorexia nervosa can respond well to CBT, however the standard recommendation of around 40 sessions is both time-intensive and expensive.
