This Holditch family portrait was taken by photographer William T. Furniss who is buried at Wardsend. I can't find anyone by the name of Holditch buried at Wardsend but I rather liked it and thought someone on here might recognise them.

Highlights were seeing two sparrowhawks together & the grey wagtail performing aerobatics above the river as it flew up to catch files. A kingfisher made an appearance too but the star of the show was the cemetery and our stretch of the River Don A lovely morning in good company in a beautiful place

Following on from Sunday's enjoyable Heritage Open Days event, yesterday saw our monthly bird survey. It's always nice to see some new surveyors join the regulars and thanks to Anthony from Don Catchment Rivers Trust for leading it.

2/2 The Japanese have a word for it - Komorebi. Not so much eerie as beautiful, magical, hypnotic; but then I think people often see what they want to see and Wardsend rewards those who love it the most.

1/2 A popular local travel blogger recently paid a brief visit to Wardsend and described it as eerie. I wonder how he would have described it yesterday as the wind stirred the trees and dappled light played across the stones; the scene alive with constantly changing light.

Another view of the River Don at Wardsend. This time looking upstream. Ducks ducking, dippers dipping and wagtails tail wagging. We regularly see kingfishers here too. So much more life beneath the surface.
