5) Press panic and social media manipulation to raise saliency 6) Secure elite support for your demand (fewer minorities in public life and less legal support for them)

This is exactly what happened with trans people first. 1) Take a settled matter of human rights 2) Portray it as "a debate" 3) Invite the minority group to debate - either they validate the debate or self-exclude <- we are here 4) Require that discussions of minority human rights are "balanced"

To be clear it was me who was blind to men, not my daughters

As a father of two daughters who spent far too long blind to how men are, I am terrified of the World my teenage girls will have to live in.

They’re going to keep saying it was terrorists until a lot of people will remember it that way. The combination of shameless liars and uninformed public is very dangerous

Not gonna read the article cos life’s too short but I assume their argument is “only rich people have childcare” and they can’t see that that’s precisely the issue they’re trying to fix

Political conservatives used to ( at least pretend) believe that they were pushing policies that made things better for all/most. Now the Right openly state that their policies are intended for their own enrichment. It’s sad that so many people hate brown people enough to vote for these ghouls

As far as I can tell he had a moderate table tennis career, then wrote a couple of knock-off Malcolm Gladwell books and suddenly started being treated as an intellectual. That probably does mess with your ego

These rich people are so boringly predictable. Their solution to every problem is for everyone else to get poorer so that they can accumulate more wealth They have nothing more sophisticated to say than “I don’t like paying tax” usually with a side order of racism

I’m yet to see why China beating the US at AI is bad for anyone other than American tech billionaires. How is a Chinese company leading at AI worse for me than Musk or Altman getting ahead?

TBF transphobia is pretty universal in the UK and Farage is supported in Wales pretty Much as in England

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I get that and sympathise but you didn’t make that clear in your original post We are talking past each other here

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I’m sympathetic to your plight but that’s wasnt the topic of conversation here The post was tarring all English as Farage supporters and all US citizens as Trumpists which irrespective of prevailing transphobia simply isn’t accurate

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
The UK is awful with transphobia now but that’s an epic goal posts shift from the original claim

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It’s not. And even less so with Farage who has only about 25% at his most popular and is loathed by a majority in this country

Nobody’s ever mistaken Kemi for a deep thinker, she just repeats right wing buzzwords so of course she believes in the Laffer nonsense

I love maths, I did a PhD in it, I do a job where I use maths everyday. But I also love history, music, literature, and they are as important as maths. And I studied maths because I like it, not because it "offers most value to the nation". We need all subjects in universities.

Gotta love the logic of “they hate us when we’re oppressing them so they’d hate us even more if we didn’t “. These guys really aren’t thick as

Finding it really telling right now we CAN arrest people holding signs peacefully about their political views. But we CAN'T arrest men beating women with literal sticks at Reform UK for expressing their views. So freedom of speech includes violence now for certain groups?

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

I like Dmitry but he has, to be generous, put this very clumsily. I don’t condone killing health executives but it isn’t conspiracist to say that they are predatory and their actions kill people

I’m amazed by how many people seem to be defining maintaining the status quo as seeking endless change. It’s really weird
020
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
In Newtonian physics, yes. In politics continuous change, even if it were at a constant pace (it wasn’t) is not what anybody understands as the status quo How would even measure the velocity of change in politics to establish it was constant. This reasoning is just silly

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Fine. “voting for the status quo” means repeatedly voting for an enacting regressive changes. Apparently words have no meaning.
010
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
My whole point is that heat has been being applied for a long time so the temperature has been rising. I am arguing that we have not seen a policy of seeking to maintain the status quo from the republicans but one of applying ever more heat - to torture your analogy

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
That thought had occurred to me too 😉 I don’t think political “momentum” is really equivalent to physical inertia in that way though
010
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
It’s not pedantic. It’s important to really understand the ways in which this republican admin is different and worse than prior iterations as well as how it’s the natural conclusion of previous trends. You can’t combat this if you don’t understand what it is
1100
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
“Heightening and accelerating” the status quo makes no sense at all. If you change it, it’s not the status quo I suspect that my politics are not that dissimilar to yours. I just differ in understanding that this regime is exceptionally bad whereas you seem to want to concede that it is normal
3130
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
That is both linguistically and politically illiterate. If you want to defeat the republicans it is more sensible to acknowledge how radical they are rather than paint them as the “status quo” 2/2
1130
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Dear god man. Reading comprehension isn’t your thing is it? I’ve neither denied that the Republicans are fascist nor defended establishment Dems. I just object to you ceding the idea that the Republicans are simply defending the status quo 1/2
1130
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Definitionally moving in any direction is not the status quo no matter how many capital letters you use
2200
Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Except that the republicans haven’t voted for the status quo. Since Reagan they’ve moved further and further to the right and taken the establishment Dems trotting along in their wake

We’re just on a steady march back to the days when only straight, white, cis, neurotypical men were considered “normal” and everyone had to conform to their norms. It’s fucking terrifying

Leo Messi is clearly the GOAT but can we acknowledge that he had a terrible final. He was just as much of a dead weight as CR7 earlier. He’s had some great moments this World Cup but not today

Wapping Bloke @wappingbloke.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
He gets a lot of credit for being a less shitty human being than CR which is hardly difficult
