If you haven't played CP2077 yet, Phantom Liberty has such an extraordinary storyline (and soundtrack), I highly suggest it. I dunno what it's like on the switch, played on PC, so I,d look up if the port is good Hades 1+2 Otherwise I use my switch to replay a bunch of older console games XD

if you like tough metroidvanias, Silk Song is an absolute recommend. Rynn's spent so much time playing it since it came out I, myself, am eagerly awaiting Kirby and the World Beyond. Lego Batman is a fun one, with plenty of content

It must have been fraught to get this off the ground, and I truly hope WotC does the right thing and recognizes the union without a hitch. This could be big for our industry, and the future of the hobby at large

They are def slipping right, imo. We only have one left-leaning party now (QS) and they are like dead last in votes rn, unfortunately. It could be worse. Could be a majority conservative, or CAQ 2.0 which is about the same

4- Portraits. This is a point I have with a lot of games, but I prefer an artist's painting as a character portrait than a screenshot of your model. I know it's easier and cheaper that way (ty Metahuman), but as a personal preference, I'd rather a 2d piece. Ok I'm done rambling now :D

but the fact that I can remove the dead three and it barely affects the story as it is currently, seems to me like they weren't at the center of it to begin with. I've heard the rumors about WotC and Larian and having to cut things out, I'm not unfamiliar with VG development. I don't blame Larian.

It's just, for the first time in 3 games, you have some involvement from Myrkul and Bane, why not put the three bros front and center? I can't come up with a story off the top of my head like I did with the MF above, because it would look like a totally different game, with a different storyline,

Ketheric is afflicted by a larva just like you or Minthara, (heck maybe he's recruitable when you free him?) Gortash as someone who thinks he can outwit the flayers, etc. Ofc then it's not really "Baldur's Gate" is it? (imo, the title, or the city, doesn't need to be tied to Bhaal)

3- Mind Flayers. I know it's hard to keep Bhaal fresh after 3 games, but I feel like you could have removed any mention of the dead three's involvement and just kept it as an illithid invasion and the game would've stayed mostly the same. Same cult, but as a front for the elder brain.

2- Strongholds. Gimme a house. Gimme my cottage in the woods with my magic dog friend. Or my castle, or my chaotic planeswalking theater troupe. I'm a sucker for player bases. I was disappointed in 3 when I saw all my camp decor I put up disappear the moment I changed map.

(mind you with party size mods, having one non-origin companion on top of the other 3 makes it less disappointing for me. I keep the companions I've grown fond of, but also we have a guest star for a bit) (I tried playing with everyone all at once, and oof, the pathfinding...)

Sure, I was happy to see Jaheira and Minsc (and Vicky) again in 3, but by that time I had my whole team (and also a druid already), I would've preferred them to remain NPCs instead of what we got now.

You also got all the companions save for Imoen early on. This lets you level them up and play longer with them as part of your team, but also gives them all enough time to have their own sidequest and arcs (granted this is 2001, so we're nowhere near the depth or numbers of arcs as bg3).

At least BG2 had Mazzy, Jan, and Korgan as Small companions, and you also had a tiefling (and a vampire and a bear, if you count the enhanced editions) On top of it, there were more POC companions (I could talk at length about Jaheira getting progressively whiter over time)

Everyone is Medium size, and the companions are a majority of humans, elves, or a mix of both. While I love the breadth of choice of companions in BG1, I also realize it is not feasible if you want to give each one an important role, or develop them to the extent you can in 2 or 3. That said...

1- Companions. This is a point of contention I have with BG3, esp. after Larian's message that "we can make more fun characters than humans (after the numbers first came up during EA that the most popular choice was human) and then not giving us a single Small companion.

BG2 came out in 2001, so of course it's not going to be as grand in scope as BG3, but I feel like it being the starting point for all the bioware-inspired games that followed (DA, ME, D:OS, and BG3 to some extent) I give it more grace in the depth it may lack.

Sorry if it took a while to reply, I got sidetracked 😅 Let me just say, I love BG3, I've waited for that game for 25 years and I still play it (900+ hours and counting), but after playing both for about as long, there are things that keep bugging me with 3. long thread, I cannot be succinct:
