It was built in 1879 with a capacity of 3.5 million cubic metres - but well short of that today & no water has been down the overflow spillway for some time! 010

St Michael & St Lawrence, at Fewston in the Washburn Valley, dates from 1697, but restored in C19. In recent times, a Washburn Heritage Centre was added in 2011 - nicely designed by Pearce Bottomley Architects. 000

He pioneered equipment for children’s play & the 1932 water chute of his in Scarborough has grade II listing - two other water chutes of his are also listed at Kettering & Hull. 000

Work is progressing with rebuilding the historic structure next to St Cuthbert's Church in this Nidderdale, North Yorkshire town. 110

Robert Walton @waltonbob.bsky.social · 21/09/2026In Scarborough's historic Peasholm Park (grade II listed), the area around the Lily Pond in Peasholm Glen (1924) has been cleared of overgrowth so more light gets into the sunken garden. Old fence post support ironwork has been found & is carefully exposed. A peaceful place in a busy seaside resort. 010

Combined into becoming an hotel c1906 & listed grade II in 1953. Altered again in 1990s & now the Prince of Wales Apartments. 020

He also funded Shuttleworth Gardens - part of South Cliff Gardens (gII). Red Court was the filming location for The Royal a hospital drama series. 031
