It's October and I'm exploring the psychology of the enjoyment and thrill of horror. Turns out it goes hand in hand with empathy. Check out this research from Colton Scrivner. osf.io/preprints/ps...
Bleeding-heart horror fans: Enjoyment of horror media is not related to lower empathy or compassion

2 more cryptid sightings this month... then I'll have some fun announcements for November!
An event flyer titled "Walsh Wettengle Autumnal Sightings" features a gritty, rusted metal background with a blue metallic plate bolted across the top. On the right side, the author in a baseball cap and a dark t-shirt that reads "Cryptid Tamer" is pictured from the waist up. Below his photo are 2 book covers: one titled "Snowman" showing an eerie snowman in a snowy playground, another titled "Absinthe & Iron Cages" featuring a glowing green lantern inside an ornate cage. On the left side, the flyer lists four autumn event dates and locations in text:
SEP 26 — 10AM-5PM: "Massacre on the Mountain" at Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, OR.
OCT 4 — 3PM: "The Thinnest Veil" readings with HWA at Tomb of Treasure, White Center, WA.
OCT 8 — 5PM-8PM: Capitol Hill Art Walk with HWA at Chophouse Row, Seattle, WA.
OCT 23-25 — various times: Artist Alley with HWA at WA State Horrorcon, Puyallup, WA.

The image is reminiscent of a dark, atmospheric book cover titled "FEAST OF APPLES" by Walsh Wettengle written in a sharp, stylized white font across the top. The background is a dense, shadowy apple orchard filled with green foliage and scattered red apples hanging from branches and littered across the dark ground. Tucked into the deep shadows on the left side, a creepy, decaying green zombie face with bare teeth and glowing red eyes peers out from behind the leaves.Event poster titled "The Thinnest Veil: Haunted Readings From the Seattle Chapter of the Horror Writers Association."

The poster features a dark, spooky theme with a black background overlaid by purple cobwebs. In the upper-left, a skeleton sits on a skeletal throne, holding up a paperback which features a vampire on the cover, her mouth open displaying her fangs.

The event details are written in stylized, dripping purple and white fonts:

The FRONT COVER of the novel, Snowman: A Christmas Horror Story, by Walsh Wettengle (second edition).
The cover is grayscale and stylized to look like a worn/scuffed photograph. It depicts a crudely-made snowman holding an oversized axe with a snow-filled city park in the background with leafless trees along the back edge. In front of and to the snowman's right is a small child in a coat and deep red hat sitting in the snow facing to the viewer's left.

The post reads: "When I started reading this book, I was afraid the main character wouldn't have inherited her mother's high cheekbones, but you guys, I have great news."

Coming soon! A new hardcover edition of Snowman with a brand new cover, designed by me. This is in advance of the paperback which comes out in June with a new cover by a local Seattle artist. Stay tuned! #CoverReveal #IndieHorror #IndieAuthor #Booksky
A grayscale bookcover for the horror story Snowman by Walsh Wettengle features a grainy, atmospheric photo of a creepy-looking snowman with a simple, smiling face and holding a large axe, situated in a desolate, snowy playground landscape. In the lower-left foreground, a small child, seen from behind, is sitting in the snow, facing away from the snowman. The child's hat is a very dark, blood-red. The title "SNOWMAN" is prominently displayed at the top in large, white text with blood-red shadow dripping from behind, while the subtitle "A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY" and the author's name "WALSH WETTENGLE" appear in smaller red and white text, respectively.

Dammit. My job is data-entry. Lol. I blame @haileypiperfights.bsky.social. 😆
A green square with white text reading: You are now forced to have the same job as the main character in the last book you read. What is the job?

Honestly, I'm so honored to be on the same table as the Muppet Christmas Carol. Freaking surreal!
