And now the matter of Accomplishing Things has been abandoned and I am simply letting this music seep in like sweet poison i' the porches of my ears.

And the sentiment expressed below - that the final three Hassell albums [the "Pentimento" series] are utterly superb, singly and collectively - is utterly correct. (Thanks to @burningambulance.bsky.social for the utterly excellent link.) www.thetonearm.com/life-and-dea...

Life and Death in Jon Hassell’s Fourth World

A longtime devotee goes back through more than four decades of Hassell’s music and talks with co-producer Jeff Rona about the ‘City’ sessions, the self-sampling, and the posthumous ‘Music Is Invisible...

A LOT of "City: Works of Fiction" up in here. And no Fourth World Vol. 1: Possible Musics, because zeros and ones and time and age and memory and it is all another country in the end.

Just shuffling through my personal on-disk/uploaded Jon Hassell collection tonight, and it is fine, if occasionally distracting, Music For Accomplishing Things.

Fun Facts: ca. the 1970s/1980s the then-owners of Miraval labeled the wine as "Pink Floyd." There is a recording studio on the property, and the actual Pink Floyd recorded large portions of "The Wall" therein.

I had not realized that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were still fighting over Chateau Miraval. The rosé is far better than a celebrity project demands, with (I believe) some help from the Perrin family (Ch. Beaucastel/Tablas Creek). www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...

There's a fine Feldman program in L.A. on Oct 5, concluding with Rothko Chapel, and I'm furious that I have to be on an airplane at that moment.

Absolutely! I can still recall an earnest conversation with a teenaged babysitter (being not yet remotely teenaged myself) as the Beatles were breaking big in '63, in which she explained that they sang about love & I wondered why they didn't sing about money? [Later discovered that indeed they did.]

Used the phrase "we three" in a sentence with friends, each of whom will know this song, and are even likely to think of it. A personal favorite among ostensibly second tier Patti Smith songs. It's about Tom Verlaine, mostly. The pre-song anecdotes here are delicious in a distinctly Patti way.

You may not make money directly in Humanities but it's Humanities folk who'll save the world overall from the grubbers whose only concern is da money. As Gandalf has it: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” Wake up, you've got to make merry!
