NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The amazing Giuseppe Petricca has only gone and photographed the Sun at noon there, every few days, for a whole year. #Dedication 🔭🧪👌 ℹ️: science.nasa.gov/image-articl...
The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

Poem by American Writer and Poet Lydia H. Sigourney 1791–1865 on the Pearce St. side of the Pearce Institute in Govan. She visited Glasgow in 1840 meeting Dr Thomas Chalmers and David Stow and wrote about it in her 1842 book ‘Pleasant Memories of Pleasant Lands’

Just spotted in Glasgow Central Station - Wallace the Fire Dog he was adopted as a mascot for Glasgow Fire Brigade at the Central Fire Station and became a full time courageous working dog from 1894-1902. Wallace led fire engines to fires and guarded the tethered horses.

Found this photograph (c) (GCC, L,I&L) on theglasgowstory.com - showing a 25-ton coaling hoist loading into a ship's hold at South Quay, Prince's Dock, 1914. It's the amazing Thomson & Sandilands Govan Town Hall in the background that really caught my attention ! more see ALT
Black & White photograph of a coal hoist with rail coal wagons in front of it - with text UNITED on sides.

(1) Govan Town Hall - Govan became a Police Burgh in 1864. Its first municipal buildings were erected in Orkney Street in 1867, but by the end of the nineteenth century these had become inadequate for the expanding burgh. A much grander town hall was therefore commissioned. Designed by the Glasgow architectural practice Thomson & Sandilands, the building was constructed between 1897 and 1901 in an elaborate Beaux-Arts/Renaissance style, using red sandstone. The foundation stone was laid in September 1898, and the building was formally opened in October 1901 by Provost James Kirkwood. The cost was approximately £60,000.

(2) Hoist - was built by Sir W G Armstrong & Co and was the first of its kind in Glasgow when it was introduced in 1903. Each fully-laden coal wagon was attached in turn to the hoist at quay level, and raised to a height of 50 feet.

From "How to Be a Poet" by Wendell Berry, who died last week at 92. On Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow, in front of billboard screens and McDonalds that I don't think he would've approved of, but in front of Scottish Ballet, Tramway arts centre, and Secret Garden which hopefully he would.
Lines from from "How to Be a Poet" by Wendell Berry, written in foundational script calligraphy, by a pavement barrier at night, with advertising lights behind. The poem in the foreground but zoomed out and unreadable, a car in the street at night behind A view up the street with a lot up McDonald's logo visible A view down the street at night with arts centre on the left and church

Giant anthemion finials are such a distinctive feature of Campbell Reid and Wingate's warehouse on Bell Street, Glasgow. Built 1914-21. They are a poignant reminder of the Great War as Wingate died on the Western Front on 13/10/1915 - this would have been his last work.
