If that’s the same incident where a pregnant woman was tackled in MN then there’s a good chance I saw that exact guy (though as part of a larger group and masked). It makes me so mad that those same thugs just have been going city to city hurting people

For retaliation legal protection legal aid nonprofits advised us to not use tenant union in our name when we formalized bylaws

One thing about the MN statute 504b that codifies the right to tenant organize is that it specifies it as a “tenant association”

Start with doing something about school funding being so determined by local property taxes. The quality of your public school education being so heavily dependent on what zip code your parents can afford to live in is an affront to an egalitarian education system

There’s a house in Whittier that has a Little Free Library and also a Ring camera directly opposite it that loudly announces its presence when you stop to look in it

Several of the cases brought by the Hennepin county attorney have relied on the ICE/CBP officers in question being off duty when harassing people or brandishing weapons while driving. Doing online forensics and figuring out agents names is not enough for the court processes

Not a lawyer but am somewhat familiar with some of the difficulties in MN. The officers not being officially identifiable/the federal government not providing personnel information to local prosecutors makes it difficult to bring charges for actions done on duty

Thoughts coming today from a bahn mi place on the same block where Pretti was killed

Honestly, it was so hectic in that space and it took me a moment to register that they were talking to their chat. Real what are we doing here moment and next time I’d probably yell at them to stop filming in the medic station and taking up time when others still needed help

The morning Alex Pretti was killed I ended up helping in one of the medic decontamination stations half a block from the police line. One of the last people I helped with flushing their eyes was streaming and trying to hold their phone camera at a good angle throughout

The legal aid nonprofits in the Twin Cities are so swamped with eviction cases that you basically have no options for legal help unless you specifically have a court-ordered eviction you’re trying to fight (no matter how strong your case/egregious the situation). Most tenant rights aren’t enforced

Feeling really bad because I had drawn up a plan in late April for fundraising, assembling, and distributing DIY air filters and N95s if we had only a few days notice of smoke using some of the same communal infrastructure from Operation Metro Surge, but I neglected it for my tenant organizing

I do not think people who are not involved in active parties/groups like DSA understand that “endorse” means intentionally deciding to devote scarce physical resources, door-knocking hours, having people show up to support at events, etc towards a campaign

“I live in your building” or “we share the same property management company, what problems have you had” makes people open up so much more easily than door-knocking cold

Not electoral canvassing related, but door knocking for my tenant union has been so much less anxiety producing than the canvassing than I‘ve done I. Suburbs before

Is there a plan/chance for this for next year’s Lyndale Avenue reconstruction. Thinking of places like Papa Chuy’s and Baba’s I’d like to see thrive despite the necessary disruption

I have bad news, but I think the person who had worked for him for years and told all at my Halloween party would be readily identifiable to their former coworkers if I spilled it on the internet

There was a window of time during the battle for Aleppo in 2016 when both the rebels and government forces managed to simultaneously besiege each other (picture something close to a Yin and Yang symbol)

I swear the over-recommendation of protein is just downwind of how it’s a pretty expensive food addition (both as meat and as an additive) and there’s an entire industry pushing that

I don’t think anyone knows how these changes will affect voting/primaries. That’s not what a lot of people are working on here at the moment. I will say that that every community/political meeting I’ve been to has been overwhelmingly younger and full of previously less engaged people

At the recent DFL caucuses in MN a sizable number of people in even surprising places did not rank Klobuchar when that was the only real option given. I don’t think the read on the ground here is that people want comfort/a known centrist

the first time we saw a Subaru on my block with ICE officers inside (almost three weeks ago now), my local chat was universally “not the gay car”

My favorite from a Whittier coffee shop’s guest book
A drawing of a snake wearing a small red beanie and blue scarf while wrapped around a pole carrying a triangular banner proclaiming “Fuck ICE”. The drawing’s surrounded by the writing “It’ssss a marathon not a race! We mussssst persisssst!”

However, his very presence/joining of local reponse/community discussion chats were guaranteed to make them unusable for their initial purposes due to how much discussion/posting would happen in them. Information management in RR is so important semi-notable people should probably be excluded

My opinion of him in MN rn is that his behavior has broadly been okay (with some notable exceptions about filming/privacy that are not the incidents that have been litigated to death online) but that literally thousands of others have been doing this sort of work the past months here

*air horns. So much of ICE’s presence in my neighborhood is single or double vehicles rapidly moving through side streets. Visual communication of them being there is not enough for how fast the pace moves

Like, there are specific times and places where we‘re requested to not use whistles (my local elementary school since it really ups kids anxiety and stress during the school day and where there already will be a mass of observers), but rather than less noise people are moving towards small airborne

From someone with no prior experience with this, I’ve found the flip cap bottle tops to be good at getting water where it’s needed without spilling larger amounts over people outside in the cold
A screenshot of a website demonstrating what a flip cap bottle looks like (small nozzle that can be flipped up from bottle top and then squirts more precisely when bottle is squeezed)
