My favorite from a Whittier coffee shop’s guest book
A drawing of a snake wearing a small red beanie and blue scarf while wrapped around a pole carrying a triangular banner proclaiming “Fuck ICE”. The drawing’s surrounded by the writing “It’ssss a marathon not a race! We mussssst persisssst!”

From someone with no prior experience with this, I’ve found the flip cap bottle tops to be good at getting water where it’s needed without spilling larger amounts over people outside in the cold
A screenshot of a website demonstrating what a flip cap bottle looks like (small nozzle that can be flipped up from bottle top and then squirts more precisely when bottle is squeezed)

A CBP officer walked down the police line at the scene of Alex Pretti’s murder at 9:46am, lingering on every onlooker in turn with this serious camera set up. At that point every person I had talked to lived in the neighborhood, like I do, or was press

Shortly after Alex Pretti’s murder, I filmed a CBP officer at the scene with a serious camera setup going down the police line and lingering on every onlooker. This was at 9:46am and every person I had spoken to then had been either from the neighborhood, like me, or press

A CBP officer was walking down the police line soon after Alex Pretti’s murder with this sinister camera setup, lingering on each onlooker in turn. Everyone there at that point literally were just neighbors, so glad their list will ultimately just be a duplicate of the census

I was at the intersection of 26th and Nicollet soon after Alex Pretti’s murder, and besides federal officers filming bystanders with their own phones, a CBP officer was going down the police line with a sinister camera setup, lingering on each onlooker in turn and focusing in on them

This was ICE/CBP driving away from a house a few blocks from where I live in South Minneapolis. All bystanders were on the sidewalk and no one was approaching the vehicle. I didn’t capture this part on film, but the car behind it did spray mace out the window

About 25 minutes or so after the shooting, a CBP officer was going down the police line with this sinister camera equipment, lingering on each bystander for 10 or so seconds. People who are probably grandparents were just yelling “Fuck You” and flicking it off

I baked 8 challahs to give out to people today

An underwater diver holding two starfish in their hand. The left one has only four sides. A professor is quoting “Sone kinds of 5-pointed starfish can be born square due to a genetic abnormality, just because…”

Rosemary plum challah (slightly messed up the braids though)
Challah straight from the oven. It’s possible to see a little bit of the plum jam seeping through the seam of a braid

Genuinely was not expecting Immanuel Kant to be the name that popped up as the first portrayal of Tove Janson’s Moomins
“Jansson’s first published version of Moomin—those endearing yet difficult creatures she was later to make famous in her Mooomintroll books for children—appeared in a political cartoon in ‘Garm’ when she was still in her teens; its prototype, an insulting portrait of Immanuel Kant, appeared even earlier on an outhouse wall after she lost a philosophical quarrel with one of her brothers.” - The Summer Book by Tove Janson (page viii-ix introduction by Kathryn Davis)

“It is quite easy to blow air through a section of mangrove root up to around 60cm in length: powerful lungs are required for greater lengths.” - Peter Hogarth, The Biology of Mangroves. I love when biology books have info you can tell required a bit of hands-on testing/demonstrations
“Roots entering the soil are largely composed of aerenchyma tissue, honeycombed with air spaces which run longitudinally down the root axis. These spaces are visible to the naked eye. Their extent and continuity can be demonstrated by blowing down a section of root as through a straw.
