The 2026 federal budget includes grants to reduce lead, carbon monoxide, mold, and radon in public housing. Congress already funds indoor hazard testing where families live. The places where children learn are a natural next place to look. Photo: Chester Higgins, EPA Documerica, 1973.

This year, Congress set the funding formula for the World Trade Center Health Program through 2040. Care for an air exposure can last a generation. Planning for clean air can, too. www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-11… #ClearAirClearAnswers

Air and learning belong in the same conversation. Congress already put them there. The next step is simple: measure the air in classrooms and share what it shows.

In 2022, Congress asked how the air after 9/11 affected young people's health and learning. The Air We Share, from Wail of a Tale Productions, follows that link into today's public schools.

Congress wrote students into the law. The World Trade Center Health Program covers people who lived, worked, or went to school in the disaster area. The students of 2001 are grown now. Today's students deserve clear answers about their air, too. Link card: www.cdc.gov/wtc/laws.html

The 2003 review looked at what people were told about the air. A documentary in development from Wail of a Tale Productions starts one step earlier, with what people know to ask. The Air We Share asks what democracy owes the children breathing the air inside its public schools.

Do not ask whether the air is okay. Ask: How many air changes per hour in my child's classroom? What is the filter rating? Does this district operate to ASHRAE Standard 241? When was any of it last verified? Make 241 the standard.
