The main comparisons in the unpublished report are skewed, and it is being presented as stronger evidence than its design really allows.

It is not realistic or sustainable for every single government program to constantly promote itself to the public. The clear villain in the DOGE immiseration campaign is the right. We don't need to play into their attacks by implying that we deserve it.

You hear this a lot on the left but it isn't true. USAID did not "fail to tell its story to Americans," the right targeted the agency with lies and misinformation. Ultimately this narrative turns conservative attacks into even more calls for the left to reform. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/29/o...
I Worked at U.S.A.I.D. for Over 8 Years. This Is Our Biggest Failure.
I worked for U.S.A.I.D. in East Africa over the past eight and a half years, selling the story of American foreign aid to people in Rwanda, Ethiopia and Kenya. Our inability to tell this same story to Americans is our great failure. It is what put the agency into the Department of Government Efficiency’s wood chipper first. It’s what allows Secretary of State Marco Rubio to get away with insisting that lifesaving humanitarian aid would continue while the administration drastically slashed its funding. And it’s what I fear will let this presidency cast the deaths from the next preventable catastrophe as unstoppable or inevitable.

Here's the thing: it *didn't* work in 2017. Trump got a lot of what he wanted, stuffed his pockets with money and came within a hair's breadth of being re-elected. The main reason he wasn't this awful was because people in his own Admin held him back. They're gone. You're all that's left, Chuck.

I really think the only way to get what we need to get across heard is to make content which is entertainment with a high informational value. The learning needs to be hidden, almost. People don’t want to do any thinking, they need info dumbed down to an extent we’d think was insulting.

Wow, this is an impressive bit of stretching, but perhaps the most obvious way in which your claim is bullshit is that no one associated with the article works for the Dept of Ed and the primary author is Canadian (CI itself is associated with U of Toronto). Just say you hate queer people already.

Leaving aside the absurdity of politicians instructing literal doctors on what is and isn’t an abortion, the nefarious endgame here is to divorce abortion from healthcare. They want to make abortion something distinct, devious, and shameful.

Means they will have natural advantages over other athletes, but no one seems to really care about that. And trans people are about less than %1 of the population.

I think my biggest problem with the "debate" over whether Democrats should abandon trans people is how divorced from reality it is. Republicans are banning gender-affirming care because they think kids are being rushed into surgeries. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING.

Supporting bathroom, sports and healthcare bans for trans people means signing on to a moral panic about problems that DON'T EXIST. When people say Democrats should "moderate" on these issues, they are suggesting that we legislate a group out of public life based on lies.

Yes.
No matter the cause, the problem for Democrats is existential. The Republican Party and its vast media apparatus are engaged in a campaign to reframe the most fundamental debates about American society: the role of women and minorities in public life, the continued existence of the New Deal state, the contours of the right to vote. If all Democrats do is attempt to match public opinion, they’ll be forever operating within a Republican frame, stuck watching the polls while Republicans move them. What has happened with trans rights will happen over and over; an endless cycle of perpetual retreat.

I don’t mean to reduce the issue to a cold political calculus. The best justification for supporting trans rights is that trans people are real and deserve civil protections. If supporting them was deeply unpopular, it would still be the right thing to do. Politics isn’t a series of McKinsey presentations, it weighs on human life and dignity.
