Ah I see, yeah C is miles faster than Python

Not necessarily. Often those functions are there for convenience not efficiency. Also, any curved line drawing uses that same underlying function, even drawing a basic circle, so there is no speed advantage to using the built-ins.

I love how they look like, word for word how the book describes them. They're even wearing... leather..?

This was such a special song to put together and write. It perfectly puts together all the feelings that come with something as heavy as loss... It's art

Cozy means something different to everyone, often it is just used in the sense of "a nice place to be". For some people I bet Doom is pretty cozy 😂

I'm lucky enough to have a partner in my Game Dev, but if I were solo I believe I would have the same issue as this person. I'm not the best at social interaction, so I would have difficulty reaching out on social media, and would feel super isolated to the point where I would abandon the project.

I do think you might be underestimating the effects of loneliness. Not that AI is the solution, but as someone who suffers from chronic loneliness, it is extremely hard to find people who will interact with me outside of me bothering them to the point I'm a nuisance.

I imagine if more AAA games were developed by small teams (and weren't produced by evil mega corporations) we'd see more competitive pricing in that realm so that it can reach more people.

110

vtleavs.bsky.social @vtleavs.bsky.social · 15/01/2025

I don't think it's as much a case of people thinking "this is worth more because it cost a lot," but instead more of a resignation to the fact that large games require large teams and therefore cost more to produce. I don't think anyone sees a $60 price tag and assumes it's a good game from that.

I know everyone celebrates their birthday to a different extent, and it's annoying when people over-celebrate, but from my experience the people who don't celebrate at all are the ones who already feel celebrated the rest of the year. For others, it's the one day of the year you feel seen.

I’ve wondered for months why Aviendha looks amused when Perrin says his surname is “Aybara” Well, Manetheren’s king was Aemon al Caar al Thorin, son of Caar & grandson to Thorin And the queen, Eldrene ay Ellan ay Carlan, daughter of Ellan & granddaughter to Carlan Ay-bara = “Daughter of” Bara…? 😅

Sounds like maybe you are applying the equation to the whole screen via the CPU and not just the mouse?

210

vtleavs.bsky.social @vtleavs.bsky.social · 27/12/2024

Those are operations that should probably be offloaded to the GPU, as it's much more efficient at doing things like screen-space fragment shaders than the CPU
