Not my president. Clearly, not a president for all Americans. “Let them (Iran) take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego.” Then Trump called it a “small price to pay.” Millions of us dead. And his audience laughed. Reporting from my local news…

I love fall so much. I've lived in Vermont my whole life and foliage season still seems like such a completely bonkers and beautiful thing to happen every year. It never gets old. 🍂
Photo of a pile of leaves on vibrant dark green moss. I collected lots of fallen leaves of different colors from different plants and trees and arranged them in an egg-shaped gradient going from green at the top to yellow and then orange and then red to darkest reds at the bottom.

Owl of the Day: Tawny Owl 📷 Ivan Sjögren
Owl perched in tree hollow, description from ebird: ‘A medium-sized owl with deep black eyes, strictly nocturnal and infrequently seen. Gray to brown overall with a big rounded head. Found at a broad range of elevations from sea level to high mountains, in woodland, forest, parkland, rocky areas, and sometimes towns and villages. Tends to roost well hidden in foliage during the day, when may be detected by tracking down the excited sound of small birds mobbing the owl. Comes out at night to hunt in clearings and more open areas. Most often detected by its quavering hoots and "kee-wik!" shrieks, given at night. Includes Maghreb Owl, formerly considered a separate species.’

A 15-year-old protesting against what the demonstrators say are France’s dilapidated and understaffed schools ‌had his hand ‌blown off on ‌Monday in the northern town of Lens, the local prefect François-Xavier Lauch ‌said. Owl of the Day: Elf Owl 📷 Jenohn Wrieden
Photo of owl perched on a branch, description from ebird: ‘One of the smallest owls in the world, about the size of a sparrow. Patterned with rufous, gray, and white. Most similar in plumage to Flammulated Owl, but note the Elf Owl's white eyebrows, yellow eyes, tiny size, and habitat. Found in brushy woodlands and surrounding desert, where they nest in natural cavities or abandoned woodpecker holes in trees and cacti. Nocturnal; most easily found by listening for call around dusk: a descending whiny chuckle or single mewing note. Migrates south to Mexico for the winter.’

Community members gathered at the Federal Immigration Court location to raise awareness and support of those that have been wrongfully detained by ICE. The community also raised voices in opposition to unwarranted military actions as well as other unjust and violent acts by ICE and other federal government agencies. This event was organized by Indivisible Resisters Contra Costa, a grassroots, nonpartisan group advocating for policies to support immigration reform, campaign finance reform, universal healthcare, racial justice, and to protect our environment.

Owl of the Day: Crested Owl 📷 Nick Athanas
Photo of owl perched on a branch, description from ebird: ‘Uncommon but unmistakable. Large spectacular owl of humid evergreen forest in tropical lowlands and foothills. Often roosts in pairs at low levels inside the forest, sometimes in rather open situations. Roosting birds often hold their long, bushy white eyebrows flattened, but raise them when alert. At night, favors dense forest canopy. Calling birds can be very difficult to locate. Call is a short, throaty, intensifying growl, typically repeated every 5–10 seconds.’
