I'm not a Stones aficionado by any means but this is the first album that actually helped me to see why people get obsessed with them

Not saying anything about the underlying claim but I don't think looking at oil markets will tell you much about the impact of potentially adding more diesel supply

"Exile on Main St." is a tour de force where the Rolling Stones play a variety of classic American genres. Thanks to the excellent and prominently featured performances, it coheres into a stunning gem that remains widely acclaimed as one of the best albums of all time. 5/5 youtu.be/Pai8XfAhebA?...

Feels like they need a legacy Vargas or (more likely) Murakami game to win at this point. They simply cannot hope to out pitch the Guardians

"Hill Country Revue" by the North Mississippi Allstars presents their 2004 performance at Bonnaroo. While notable for being the last performance of R. L. Burnside, Burnside largely cedes the spotlight and unfortunately most of the younger members lack his charisma. 2/5 youtu.be/fl7qy98d3UA?...

I actually think they'll do more to add pitching than offense. As you said the offense is pretty locked in and you simply cannot count on any single pitcher on the Braves 40 man to provide 150 innings next season. Sale will be 38, Mahle is a FA, and everyone else is hurt and/or mid.

I said I wouldn’t get mad tonight but the bats were just genuinely so pathetic in what was a shockingly winnable series that it is going to leave a bad taste in my mouth until we ever get baseball again

Trump is basically claiming that he pardoned a crook who didn't deserve it for purely political resasons. This alone is worthy of impeachment and removal; overall, Trump's abuse of power pardons are easy calls for legitimate impeachment and removal. Whether he brags about it or not.

"For Better, or Worse" is the second John Prine duets album and like most duet albums the results are inconsistent. Prine was still an excellent interpreter but both the song quality and the duet chemistry varies too much for this album to be an unqualified success. 3/5 youtu.be/VSIVFEkxYOw?...

2018's "Jay Myself" is an entertaining portrait of the famous photographer Jay Maisel and his move out of his ludicrously large home in NYC. Along the way, the documentary profiles his approach to photography, his voluminous work, and his similarly voluminous quirks. 7/10

"Swordfishtrombones" by Tom Waits is a sharp turn from his prior albums, becoming much more experimental and daring. Luckily, the shift in direction was immediately artistically successful, as the album combines Waits' cutting lyrics with unforgettable instrumentation. 5/5 youtu.be/IXR6qw16XBA?...

"Pick Me Up Off the Floor" is a surprisingly great album from Norah Jones. Compared to her earlier and more popular albums, this album has much greater instrumental depth and variety, lessening the pressure on Jones' lyrics or her still distinctive voice. 4/5 youtu.be/tjKbMaNodN0?...

"Holdin' On" by The Blind Boys of Alabama never makes much of an impact due to the overly tepid instrumentation & the uninspired song choices. The singing is fine but does not display the hard-edged style that helped put them back on the map with their next album. 2/5 youtu.be/cmOSm50GqRs?...

Skubal had more than a week off, which Sale wasn't going to have no matter what. Also he's younger and probably just better so I don't think it's a realistic comparison

010

Vslyke @vslyke.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Why? It wasn't like he was going to have 2 "true" starts anyway in the NLDS. I also wonder if the weather is a factor here, how much is anyone going to be able to throw in an Extreme Heat Warning. Probably not the worst day to throw a new guy in every other inning

"The In Crowd" by The Ramsey Lewis Trio spawned the hit title track and remains an accessible jazz album that does not pander to the audience. While the music can be a bit simple as a result of the format, the skill and the chemistry of the trio is never in doubt. 3/5 youtu.be/GFM3vVlHnNw?...

1963's "Symphony for a Massacre" plays it a little too cool, as the film downplays the action in favor of uninteresting dialogue. However, the cinematography is strong and the classic theme of criminals betraying each other is ably represented, making for a promising but frustrating film. 6/10

Interestingly, the album includes several songs recorded by other Stax affiliated artists, such as "I Like it" by The Emotions (with a seemingly identical backing track) and "Toe Hold" by Sharon Tandy. The liner notes are also excellent, even if sometimes I have to disagree with Carla's preferences.

"Hidden Gems" collects unreleased tracks from the Stax tenure of Carla Thomas, mainly finding gold from her later recordings. While the quality varies track to track, the best songs are equally as strong as her official catalog, creating a solid alternate history. 3/5 youtu.be/kabDgtES7tI?...

"The Genius Hits the Road" presents a road-weary Ray Charles as his voice is often weakened. Many of the songs have florid arrangements and some are uninspired, making this largely a miss, albeit one that brought us Ray's classic version of "Georgia on My Mind." 2/5 youtu.be/6wJkMKluobs?...

"Basie Plays Hefti" is bit more staid than the previous Count Basie & Neal Hefti collaboration but still offers plenty of excitement. The songs are tighter than on "The Atomic Mr. Basie" which keeps the group from improvising as much but keeps the album digestible. 3/5 youtu.be/KjHLsId8JAM?...

"The Atomic Mr. Basie" is an explosive evolution from Count Basie, one that finds the big band embracing additional improvisation. That gives much of the album a visceral thrill that livens up the songs, making for big band music that still sounds fresh. 4/5 youtu.be/aqtp-ITWBTo?...
