Just when I thought the NYT headlines were getting better, they put up this doozy. “Grieving Trump”? You have got to be kidding me. Trump has no emotional capacity to grieve for anyone. The article is not much better - feels like a story specifically calculated to make Trump appear to be normal.

I’m pretty sure the second paragraph in this NYT update on the latest from the Middle East wasn’t meant for our eyes.

What in God’s name are the techbros (and apparently tech journalists) huffing? Will tech take over the papacy? A 2,000 year old institution? The hubris is insane. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/25/t...

I know word count is how editors and journalists think about written material, but most people don’t. No one describes the length of War and Peace with a word count. Just say “150 page (or whatever #) encyclical”. That’s something people can envision.

A sign that I may consume too much political news: My first assumption when reading this headline was that the referenced “landslide” and “tsunami” were of the electoral kind.

It’s now been replaced with this, losing the word “deviant”.

From the NYT home page right now. There were those of his time who indeed labeled him “deviant”, but I don’t think the leading US newspaper in 2026 needs to carry their water. Kind of shocking, tbh.

TIL that the largest area of our congressional district is actually in Lake Erie. As Dems like to say, land can’t vote. But what about water?

The last stanza of Auden’s poem “September 1, 1939”beautifully captures this view.
The last stanza of Auden’s poem, “September 1, 1939”:

Defenceless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

Narcissist ≠ NPD But Trump meets every single diagnostic criteria for the full blown disorder. And it’s reconfirmed on a daily basis. His rigidity and inflexibility are clear signs that this is not just a personality trait, but a disorder.

And the inspiration for the disturbing “Figure With Meat” by Francis Bacon. FWM was one of my college roommate’s favorite paintings. At one point he hung it on our door. And FWM is the one painting that The Joker (Jack Nicholson) chooses to save during his museum rampage in the 1989 Batman movie.

Deep diving this afternoon on the Edo period in Japanese history. Came across this battle. I know it’s pronounced differently in Japanese, but read as an English word, it’s quite direct. When the Battle of Imafuku begins, you’re about to get fucked.
