After a year of hard work in Sacramento and across the district, I am pleased to report that nine of my bills were signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom last month.

I was proud to be a joint author of this critical legislation, which prohibits a law enforcement agency, including a federal law enforcement agency, from using a wearable electroshock device in the State of California.

ICE has been out of control, especially with the latest murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas. We in California want to do what we can to rein them in and protect Californians all over the state.   Earlier today, AB 2760 was signed into law!

Landmark bill in California now requires state to disclose PFAS pesticide use
Under the new law, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation must track pesticides containing PFAS in its publicly accessible database and monitor how these pesticides are used over time.

This isn’t a novel concept. Thousands of candidates from different backgrounds have been elected in fourteen states and 26 localities using similar systems. And it’s time that all of California join them. Vote YES on Proposition 4!
011
Nick Schultz @votenickschultz.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Proposition 4 lifts that ban, giving voters and local governments the option to adopt public financing with strict safeguards so qualified candidates—regardless of their income—can compete against candidates who are backed by wealthy interests.
111
Nick Schultz @votenickschultz.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
But most California communities are banned from using these tools, allowing the influence of big money to grow.
121
Nick Schultz @votenickschultz.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I wholeheartedly endorse Proposition 4. The amount of money in California elections is outrageous. Since 2020, more than $1 billion has been spent on California state candidate races alone. Programs like small-dollar donation matching help candidates compete without relying on wealthy donors.

Nick Schultz @votenickschultz.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Agreed. It’s long past time that Burbank settle this lawsuit with Metro, and we instead focus on delivering a high-quality transit project that will benefit not only Burbank but more broadly speaking the entire LA region.

Every fight I take on in Sacramento – protecting workers’ rights, defending fair wages, standing up for healthcare people can actually rely on – traces back to lessons my family taught me about the value of organized labor long before I ever thought about running for office.

In the United States, a person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Mr. Essayli‘s office failed to do its job, and now he is complaining in bad faith. It’s time for him to go!

Congratulations David Huerta! Justice, truth, and fairness prevailed today. But it never should have come to this point. Bill Essayli is clearly unfit for public office. Charges were dropped against Mr. Huerta, and yet Mr. Essayli continues to disparage him.
