I was thrilled to visit LAVC to chat with students about my work as Chair of the Assembly Commitee on Public Safety. I appreciated the opportunity to highlight AB 1905, which would prohibit the use of Perkins agents for minor offenders.

BIG WIN for indigent defense in CA! Flat-fee contracts incentivize volume over justice. This is a step towards ensuring that every Californian gets the defense to which they are constitutionally entitled. Thank you to @asmnickschultz.bsky.social for authoring this bill & getting it passed + signed.

Today, I pause to remember September 11, 2001 — a day that changed our nation forever. We remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken, the families who continue to carry their memories, and the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation to save others.

Every fight I take on in Sacramento – protecting workers’ rights, defending fair wages, standing up for healthcare people can actually rely on – traces back to lessons my family taught me about the value of organized labor long before I ever thought about running for office.
