After an extensive update to the big board, there are no fewer than 207 members of the global 400 HR club.

I posted this to social media eleven years today about the events of 17 years ago tomorrow.

My most recent card, a 1972 JCM 15a Kankan of Shigeo Nagashima. I have been buying quite a few Japanese cards of late, which has been a different experience since I'm buying based on vibes more than comps.

If the Dallas Cowboys are in Brazil, what is the most overhyped team in the US right now?

Today is the first Sunday of the NFL season. I wonder who the Miami Dolphins will play in the Super Bowl in February? Yes, I'm living in a fantasy world. Why do you ask?

Did you play professional baseball yesterday? Neither did the Reds. Oof.

What was his pitch count that day? ALL OF THEM.

He survived the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, overcame a childhood accident that reduced the use of his hand and triumphed over the bigotry associated with being Korean-Japanese in Japan to become of of the great contact and power hitters anywhere in the world. RIP.

🇲🇽 Wishing a very happy 65th birthday to Mexican outfielder Alonso Téllez. Through all this research, he has become a personal favorite of mine for several reasons. He was a superstar in both the LMB (Mexican League) and LMP (Pacific Winter League) and briefly played in the Dodgers and Expos systems.

400 professional game winner, lost more games than he won. His career totals are still not fully known.

My newest baseball card, a 1990 Calbee card NPB HOFer Manabu Kitabeppu. A lifelong member of the Hiroshima Carp, he won 213 games as well as A MVP and two Sawamura Awards. He was elected to the HOF in 2012. #cardsky

Had a great time chatting with my good pal @billtwibh.bsky.social about my poster presentation at #SABR54. We talked about the 400 Professional Win Club, an eclectic group of 16 pitchers from the USA, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

R.I.P to Tommy John and also to whatever else had to be destroyed to create this headache inducing, BS graphic.

I was looking at the box scores for the 1983 Japan Series, and the Google Translate English translations for one of the players names in the box scores was "light soy sauce." This has nothing to do with my research. I just thought it was funny.

My favorite series in media is starting their newest season in Japan. I am looking forward to it!

🇵🇷 Wishing a happy 79th birthday to El Pelotero de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico’s Ballplayer), José “Cheo” Cruz. One of his generation’s most underrated stars, he just missed Puerto Rico’s all-time home run record—simply because he didn’t know he was one shy (data was not well-tracked and widely shared).

Frank was a feared power hitter (382 HR) in MLB. In addition to his homer in the 1963 World Series, he also had 84 in the minors, 28 in Puerto Rico and 10 in the Dominican Republic for a total of at least 505 professional home runs.

Von Spalding @vonspalding.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Over the weekend, I found eight home runs that I didn't know about for one of the global 500 HR hitters. It is always nice to find some new info.

In my regular job, I work as a data clerk at a local factory. I just got a call that I have been traded to the Dodgers for an Excel expert and a SAP administrator to be named later. While I am sad to be leaving, I'm looking forward to taking my talents to sunny southern California.

Chris had a wonderful career as a professional. Between his time in the USA, Mexico and Nicaragua, he had at least 3523 hits and 645 stolen bases.

In 1969 Gomez pitched (9-1 record, thankyouverymuch) in the Saguenay Senior League in Quebec right around the time when the new Expos could have probably used a good arm. Ever since I saw that, I wonder if they ever tried to sign him.

Happy Birthday to both Satchel Paige and Ringo Starr. I will never forget the time Ringo threw shutouts in back to back starts against the White Sox. Of course, Satchel's drumming on Sgt Pepper's made the album the masterpiece it is.

For American baseball fans, this is one of, if not the most obscure player in the global 500 home run club.

Jiménez almost certainly has 3000 professional hits, but we have not be able to prove it.

If you include his time in the postseason, minor leagues, LIDOM and Japan(!!), Tony had 3,212 hits.
