The biggest problem for Germany is how extremly unpopular he is now. And because of his character he doesn't have any chance to win people back no matter what reforms he does. I know that it may seem like a detail but in fact that's the voters mostly care about...

Thanks for the essay, I understand your position. We need people like you to keep telling us what's the best thing to do, so that, as a society, we at least choose the lesser evil. For me, letting Norway drill is the lesser evil. I know it's not enough for you, but from a society POV, it's a succes.
