It's been long enough that Bowser really should have made a statement that he's not involved with Luigi, but every time he tries to figure out how to word it he gets hung up on the idea that he's basically admitting that nobody wants him and puts it off again.

The question is ... Does Bowser eventually get Luigi a collar, too?

Luigi doesn't find out what he (sort of) did for almost a month, and when he does he's too embarrassed to clear it up. Bowser must have known it was an accident, right? Right??? He didn't say anything, so... And then Luigi sees Bowser actually WEARING the collar, and has no idea WHAT to think.

Bowser can barely react before he hears everyone start whispering. The rumors will spread no matter what he does. And he can't quite bring himself to refuse the collar and embarrass Luigi. So he takes it as casually as he can and says, "Yeah, cool, thanks." His voice cracks on the last word.

But Luigi doesn't know ANY of this when he finds an antique collar while lost on an adventure, thinks it looks like Bowser's style, and casually gives it to Bowser in front of a dozen of his troops.

It's been long enough that wearing a collar as fashion is more common than wearing an engagement collar, but giving one as a gift is still very... loaded. It's like a boyfriend giving a ring to his girlfriend, it always carries implications. Just get different jewelry!

those "accidental proposal" stories are always fun. Like, when there's cultural differences and something that's innocuous in one place is explicitly romantic in others. Let's say wedding rings are a relatively recent thing among koopas and they used to use collars. Those are a lot harder to lose.

Honestly, seeing this image, I think I'm going to have to write up a blog post that talks about /why/ I find these stories/depictions so affirming and empowering. I think a lot of it is simply that everyone in the world seems to be allowed to be cool except for transmasc folks?
