Weekly report on Rincon de la Viejo Transcript in the alt-text Source (Spanish): www.ovsicori.una.ac.cr/index.php/vu...
During this week, 27 eruptions were recorded; only one surpassed an acoustic magnitude of 4 (moderate). Most of these eruptions are of low magnitude. The eruption on September 21 at 6:40 a.m. was the one with the highest acoustic magnitude of the week. This week, frequent exhalations of volcanic gases and water vapor (292) were observed, although with very low acoustic magnitude. The low-frequency background tremor (0.7 - 2.5 Hz) increased in amplitude during this week, but it showed variations in amplitude and frequency range. On September 24, a harmonic tremor was observed, and some short tremor pulses were noted. Events were recorded both near and far from the crater. The number of long-period signals increased this week, although the number of screw-type events remained stable. In the medium term (last 6 months), there is a trend of subsidence both at the base and the top of the volcano, accompanied by an extension of the summit area. In the short term, no significant deformation was observed, although the quality of the data from the past week limits the accuracy of this assessment. The average SO2 flux this week is 259 ± 196 t/d, with a maximum value of 2104 t/d. These values represent an apparent decrease in SO2 emissions compared to the previous week, when the average flux was 390 ± 155 t/d, with a maximum value of 6153 t/d. However, this week's values could be influenced by an unfavorable wind direction, which might explain this apparent decrease. These values are above the baseline for this volcano. The last detection of SO2 in the atmosphere by the SENTINEL satellite emitted by the Rincón de la Vieja volcano was on September 7, 2025.

Below is an image of a translation of SGC's special bulletin on increasing seismicity and volcanic gases present at Purace (Alert ORANGE). Transcript in alt-text. Source (Spanish): www2.sgc.gov.co/Noticias/bol...
Puracé Volcano - Los Coconucos Volcanic Chain

Since the publication of the last bulletin, there continues to be a record of seismic signals associated with fluid dynamics in the volcanic conduits, especially long-period (LP) events located beneath the Puracé volcano crater, at depths of less than 1 km.

There is also ongoing seismicity associated with rock fracturing (volcano-tectonic, VT), most of it located 10 to 22 km northeast of the Puracé volcano, at depths between 7 and 17 km (Figure 1). The largest recorded magnitude was 1.0 ML. The slow ground deformation process continues in the area between the Puracé, Piocollo, and Curiquinga volcanoes.

Regarding gas monitoring, sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions continue, and there is an increasing trend in the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) measured in the soil. Since the last bulletin, two ash emissions have been recorded, dispersed toward the northwest of the volcanic edifice according to the wind direction (Figure 2). Observation conditions were difficult due to heavy cloud cover at the top of the volcano. According to information published on satellite observation platforms, no thermal anomalies have been identified on the crater floor.

In general, in the different methodologies of volcanic monitoring, the values that have been instrumentally recorded on the volcano over the past few weeks remain above what has been recorded in the baseline behavior lines, and therefore represent a significant change in its dynamics, so the volcano continues in an Orange alert state.

The following is a translation from the special report (REAV) from SERNAGEOMIN on the activity at Villarrica (Technical level YELLOW). Transcript in alt-text. Source (Spanish): www.sernageomin.cl/wp-content/u...
The National Service of Geology and Mining of Chile (Sernageomin) shares the following information, obtained through the monitoring equipment of the National Network for Volcanic Surveillance (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the Southern Andes Volcanological Observatory (Ovdas):

During August and the first days of September, Villarrica volcano showed a notable increase in seismic and surface activity compared to its baseline levels. The size of the continuous seismic signal (RSAM) reached the highest average values of the period, surpassing 0.25 µm/s. On August 29, a seismic episode associated with fluid dynamics caused an abrupt drop in the RSAM, followed by a gradual recovery and periods of higher energy. Since then, cyclical increases in tremor have been observed, lasting from minutes to hours, with Reduced Displacement values up to 26 cm², considered low to moderate for this volcano. In Villarrica, this type of signal is closely related to the dynamics of the lava lake.

At the same time, acoustic signals compatible with minor explosions at the crater level were recorded, along with emissions of ballistic pyroclasts, incandescence, and satellite signals indicating an increase in surface temperature. These manifestations have remained confined to the crater area. Overall, the seismic changes and the mentioned surface manifestations support a condition of increased activity and instability, consistent with the lava lake rising to more superficial levels. New episodes of similar or greater energy are not ruled out, with possible ejection of pyroclastic material and effects limited to the crater surroundings.

The image below is a translated summary of INGV's weekly report on Etna. Transcript included in the alt-text. Source (Italian): www.ct.ingv.it/index.php/mo...
In light of the monitoring data, the following stands out:

1) VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: Degassing activity at variable levels from the summit craters, associated with almost continuous ash emissions from the Northeast Crater; weak and sporadic Strombolian activity and occasional ash emissions from the Bocca Nuova Crater.
2) SEISMOLOGY: Low fracturing seismic activity: only one event reached the ML>=2.0 threshold. Tremor amplitude is between a low and medium level.
3) INFRASOUND: Low-energy infrasonic activity with occurrence frequencies varying between low and very high levels.
4) GROUND DEFORMATIONS: Signals from ground deformation monitoring networks showed no significant changes.
5) GEOCHEMISTRY: SO2 flux at a medium level. CO2 flux from the soil (Etnagas): at average values. Partial pressure of dissolved CO2 in groundwater (EtnaAcque Network): no updates. Helium isotopic ratio at peripheral sites: no updates, last data was high (August 26, 2026).
6) SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS: Thermal activity observed by satellite in the summit area was generally low.
7) OTHER OBSERVATIONS: RADONETNA network data during September 2026 showed anomalies at the southern flank sites that preceded by a few days those observed at the northern flank sites.

EXPECTED SCENARIOS Frequent explosive activity at the summit craters with the formation of ash clouds and fallout of coarse pyroclastic materials, accompanied by lava emissions in the summit area. A rapid escalation of ongoing activity into more energetic events with eruptive columns, ash clouds, and collapses of parts of the summit cones forming pyroclastic flows cannot be ruled out.

The image is a summary translation of INGV's weekly report on the activity of Stromboli. Transcript is also included in the alt-text. Source (Italian): www.ct.ingv.it/index.php/mo...
In light of the monitoring data, the following is highlighted:

1) VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: Ordinary strombolian eruptive activity in both crater areas. Frequency of total explosive activity, including the North Crater Area and the Central-South Crater Area, is at a medium-low level with low explosion intensity in both crater areas.
2) SEISMOLOGY: The monitored seismic parameters do not show significant changes.
3) GROUND DEFORMATIONS: Data from ground deformation monitoring networks have not shown significant changes.
4) GEOCHEMISTRY: SO2 flux at a medium level. CO2 flux from the soil (Pizzo Area - STR02): no updates. C/S ratio in the plume: no updates. Helium isotopic ratio (R/Ra): increasing at very high values. CO2 flux from the ground in the San Bartolo area: high values. CO2 flux from the soil in the Scari area: no updates.
5) SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS: Thermal activity observed by satellite in the summit area was generally low level with some isolated medium and high-level anomalies.

EXPECTED SCENARIOS: Ordinary strombolian persistent activity coupled with lava flows along the Sciara del Fuoco due to overflow from the craters. The activity may be accompanied by rockfalls or debris avalanches along the Sciara del Fuoco and by potential hydro-magmatic explosions from lava-sea interaction, with block ejection up to several hundred meters from the coast and dispersion of gases and/or volcanic ash. It is not possible to rule out explosions of greater than ordinary intensity.
